The First Battle of Rezallë was an early armed clash during the Kosovo War in 1998 between the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and forces of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the village of Rezallë, near Skenderaj.

Background

edit

In early 1998, tensions in the Drenica region escalated as the KLA began organizing armed resistance against Yugoslav authorities. The area around Rezallë became a stronghold for Albanian fighters, including members of the Jashari[1][2]

Battle

edit

The battle involved KLA fighters led by Adem Jashari and Hamza Jashari, along with other local fighters. Yugoslav forces launched operations targeting KLA positions in Rezallë.

The KLA resisted the attacks using small arms and defensive positions within the village. Fighting lasted for several hours, with both sides exchanging fire. Despite being outnumbered and less equipped, the KLA fighters managed to hold their ground.

Aftermath

edit

The clash strengthened the symbolic resistance of the KLA in the Drenica region. It also contributed to the growing conflict that would later escalate into full-scale war across Kosovo.
