Ajoy Mukherjee was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on 15 March 1967 following the defeat of the Indian National Congress in the 1967 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. The government was formed by the United Front, a coalition of left-wing and regional parties led by the Bangla Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).[1][2][3][4][5] This was the first non-Congress government in the history of West Bengal. The ministry faced intense internal conflict between coalition partners and eventually collapsed on 2 November 1967.
