Faneromeni Library (Greek: Βιβλιοθήκη Φανερωμένης) is a library located in Faneromeni Square in Nicosia. It is one of the oldest libraries in Cyprus.
History
editIt was founded in 31 October 1933 by the Faneromeni church and a group of prominent men of letters.[1] The Faneromeni library houses the reading room and the informational center of the Cyprus Library, specialising in Cyprological material.[2]
The building
editThe library is housed on the first floor of the Tsaousis building, which is a property of the Church of Cyprus.[2] The Tsaousis building was constructed in the 1920s and its one of the landmarks of Neo-classical architecture in Nicosia. The library was housed there from 1934.[3]
The library will be moved in the next 6 months because the Archibishophoric has reached an agreement to rent it to the annex of the University of Athens that has been established in Cyprus in 2025.[2] In 2009 the neo-classical building of the library was restored according to strict specifications.[4]
Collections
edit- Constantines library[5]
- The personal library of Neoklis Kyriazis[6]
