Comment: Signs of WP:AIATTR and some differences between what the source says and the draft text (e.g. Hurricane Harvey, GQ says "winnings", draft says "earnings", other key parts of the source are not in the draft).I hope the article can be rewritten, the subject seems notable. Ezekiel "Zeke" "Blue" Mitchell is an American professional bull rider who competes in Professional Bull Riders events. A native of Rockdale, Texas, Mitchell won the PBR Touring Pro Division championship in 2017 and finished the 2019 season ranked 15th in the world.[1] He has also appeared in the documentary series The Ride, which followed competitors during the inaugural PBR Team Series season.[2]
Early life
editMitchell grew up between Baytown and Rockdale, Texas, and is one of 11 siblings.[3] He became interested in cowboy culture as a child and received his first horse, named Two Socks, when he was 12.[3]
Because Mitchell did not grow up in a bull-riding family, he studied videos of professional riders online, including videos featuring PBR rider Dustin Elliott.[1][4] He and a neighbor constructed a practice bull using automotive suspension equipment, and Mitchell later rode his first bull at age 16.[3][1]
Mitchell attended Hill College in Texas. While in college, he traveled to rodeos around the state and used his earnings to help his family after Hurricane Harvey damaged his mother's home.[3]
Career
editMitchell began competing through the PBR Touring Pro Division and won its championship in 2017.[1] In 2019, he rose as high as third in the PBR world standings before finishing the season ranked 15th.[3][1]
Mitchell attracted national attention as one of the highest-ranked Black bull riders competing professionally in the United States. His career and experiences as a Black athlete in professional bull riding were profiled by GQ in 2020.[3] In 2021, his life was featured in the ten-part Snapchat documentary series Life by the Horns.[5] The series documented his professional career and his pursuit of a PBR world championship.[5]
Mitchell recorded a career-high score of 93 points aboard Smooth Operator in 2021.[1] He subsequently competed for the Austin Gamblers in the PBR Team Series and appeared as one of the riders featured in the 2023 Prime Video documentary series The Ride.[1][6]
In 2025, Mitchell joined the Texas Rattlers. He competed under head coach Cody Lambert and helped the team finish third during the season.[1][7]
