The EULiST European University Alliance comprises 10 European universities: LUT University (Finland), Jönköping University (Sweden), Leibniz University Hannover (Germany), Institut Mines-Télécom (France), Brno University of Technology (Czech Republic), Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (Slovakia), Technical University of Vienna (Austria), Rey Juan Carlos University (Spain), University of L'Aquila (Italy), National Technical University of Athens (Greece).[1] EULiST is the acronym for European Universities Linking Society and Technology, reflecting the alliance's goal to develop sustainable solutions for major societal challenges in interlinking knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with Social Sciences and Humanities.[2]
History
editIn November 2017, the European Commission set out a vision for a European Education Area.[3] European universities are transnational university alliances that aim to develop a joint European educational area to promote sustainability and strengthen the European identity. The EULiST Alliance was succesful in the 3rd Erasmus+ call and started in November 2023. The overall budget is 14,370,932€ from 01 November 2023 to 31 October 2027.[4] EULiST brings together over 200,000 students and 20,000 staff, combining technical fields, humanities and social sciences.[1] The alliance strives to take advantage of its diversity, reflected in locations ranging from major metropolitan areas (Athens, Madrid, Paris or Vienna), to major cities (Bratislava, Brest, Brno or Hannover), and to smaller rural towns (Albi, Jönköping, Lahti). The alliance also highlights its institutional diversity, from small specialised universities (7,000 students at LUT University) to large comprehensive ones (40,000 at Rey Juan Carlos University), as a strength to address societal challenges from multiple perspectives and to build lasting collaborations within and beyond Europe. 16 Public authorities are officialy associated partners to this European Alliance: Municipality of Aquila (Italy), Municipality of Athens (Greece), Municipaliy of Lavreotiki (Greece), Regional Council of South Karelia (Finland), Bratislava region (Slovakia), Lahti sub-region (Finland), Hannover city (Germany), Old Town Municipality of Bratislava (Slovakia), Spanish Ministry of Science (Spain), Attic region (Greece), Epirus region (Greece), Region Hannover (Germany), Region of Jönköping (Sweeden), Vienna city (Austria), Brno city (Czech Republic), Community of Madrid (Spain).[2]
Missions
editEULiST's mission is to unite diverse universities across Europe, empowering students, researchers, citizens and institutions to co-design solution toward a sustainable, socially responsible and interconnected European University.

- Develop Joint Research and Innovation Strategy on Sustainable Development Goals
- Create a Citizen Science Office to reach non-traditional learners
- Promote mobility for students and staff
- Establish a EULiST Digital Knowledge Hub[5]

Governing bodies
edit- The Governing Board is the highest decision body that take all basic and strategic decisions. The Rectors / Presidents of the EULiST Members constite the Governing Board. It takes decision prepared by the Management Board.[6]
- The Management Board decide on and supervises all operative matters.
- The Coordination Office consists of the local EULiST Coordinators and assist with the day-to-day organisational coordination
- The General Assembly oversee all operations and has the right to initiate decisions to be taken by the Governing Board.
- The Student Board send representatives into all executive bodies.
- The Advisory Council has an advisory role for the Governing Board and the whole lliance.
