Draft:Emperus Distillery

  • Comment: The only sources that count towards notability per WP:NCORP are #2 and #4, and they're both a bit borderline, and in any case two isn't enough to satisfy NCORP, we need at least one more solid source. DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:54, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Emperus Distillery is a Serbian fruit brandy distillery based in Đurđevo, near Rača, in the Šumadija region of Serbia. The distillery produces rakija, including plum brandy, commonly known as slivovitz, and other fruit brandies.[1][2]

The family production of rakija associated with Emperus is reported to date to 1935, while the modern organized distillery was established in 2017.[2][3]

History

edit

The production of rakija within the Senić family has been linked in Serbian media to 1935.[4] In an interview published by Politika, Slobodan Senić stated that he established Emperus in 2017 in order to convert the family production into an organized distillery with controlled production processes.[3]

In 2026, Spirits & Distilling described Emperus in the context of contemporary Balkan rakija producers seeking wider recognition outside the region, including in the United States.[2]

Production

edit

Emperus produces fruit brandies from plums and other fruits. According to Spirits & Distilling, the production process described by Aleksandar Senić includes the use of healthy, aromatically mature plums, pitting before fermentation, copper distillation equipment and aging in Serbian sessile oak.[2]

The same source reported that Emperus has an annual production capacity of about 300,000 litres, with much of the production intended for aging.[2] Politika reported that the distillery uses fruit from its own orchards, covering 60 hectares, including 40 hectares of plums.[3]

Products

edit

Products associated with Emperus in international sources include Emperus Privilège 25 YO Brandy, Emperus 12, Victory and Reserva Antica.[1][5]

The International Wine & Spirit Competition lists Emperus Privilège 25 YO Brandy as a Serbian stone fruit spirit aged for 25 years, with 43% alcohol by volume.[5]

Recognition

edit

In 2024, the International Wine & Spirit Competition awarded Emperus Privilège 25 YO Brandy a Spirit Gold medal in the stone fruit spirits category.[5]

The New York International Spirits Competition listed EMPERUS Distillery as Serbia Distillery of the Year in 2024.[6] The Melbourne International Spirits Competition also listed Emperus as Serbia Distillery of the Year in 2024.[7]

In Serbian media, Radio Television of Vojvodina reported that a 30-year-old bottle of Emperus slivovitz was sold at auction for 1,750,000 Serbian dinars.[4] N1 reported that Emperus was named the overall champion at the Šumadija Rakija Fair in Kragujevac.[8]
