Career

edit

After quitting his career in government, Edo took part in the political stage as a cadre of the Golkar Party. His election as Mayor could not be separated from Golkar's interference.

In 2018 Effendi Edo also ran for Deputy Mayor of Cirebon paired with Bamunas Setiawan Budiman cadres from PDIP in the 2018 Cirebon Mayor general election, but lost to the incumbent candidate at that time, Nasrudin Azis, his brother's representative in the 2013 Cirebon Mayor general election]. At that time, Azis was paired with Eti Herawati. Uniquely, in the 2024 Cirebon Mayoral Election, Edo managed to defeat Eti Herawati, who at that time was the incumbent candidate paired with Suhendrik.

In the 2024 Cirebon Mayoral Election, Edo is running as Mayor of Cirebon for the 2025–2030 term by collaborating with National Awakening Party politician, Siti Farida Rosmawati. This pair of candidates succeeded in winning by winning 77,755 votes or 50.32% of the total valid votes.[1]
