EarthPercent is a charitable organisation founded in 2021 that works with the music industry to fund climate justice and environmental organisations.[1]
Operations
editThe charity funds grant partners in five key action areas: greening music, energy transition, climate justice, legal and policy change, and protecting nature.[2]
As of January 2024, EarthPercent had granted over $675,000 to climate organisations, including Client Earth, Cool Earth, Global Green Grants Fund, Youth Climate Justice Fund and Music Declares Emergency.[3]
Fundraising Campaigns
editIn 2022 and 2023, EarthPercent ran Earth Day campaigns which saw artists including Coldplay and Michael Stipe offer tracks to be released with proceeds going to climate causes.[2]
In 2022, a compilation record called "Line in The Sand" was released on limited edition bioplastic 12" vinyl, featuring music from Hot Chip, Brian Eno, and Fay Milton from Savages.[4]
In 2023, EarthPercent launched "The Earth As Your Co-writer", an initiative allowing music artists to credit 'The Earth' as a songwriter in their music, thereby pledging a portion of the royalties to climate justice and environmental organisations.[5]
In 2024, EarthPercent was a key partner in the launch of Sounds Right, a campaign from Museum for the United Nations - UN Live which recognised 'NATURE' as a recording artist on streaming platforms for the first time. Participating musicians who have released music featuring the sounds of nature include AURORA, Ellie Goulding, London Grammar and Bomba Estereo. [6]
