EarthPercent is a charitable organisation founded in 2021 that works with the music industry to fund climate justice and environmental organisations.[1]

Operations

edit

The charity funds grant partners in five key action areas: greening music, energy transition, climate justice, legal and policy change, and protecting nature.[2]

As of January 2024, EarthPercent had granted over $675,000 to climate organisations, including Client Earth, Cool Earth, Global Green Grants Fund, Youth Climate Justice Fund and Music Declares Emergency.[3]

Fundraising Campaigns

edit

In 2022 and 2023, EarthPercent ran Earth Day campaigns which saw artists including Coldplay and Michael Stipe offer tracks to be released with proceeds going to climate causes.[2]

In 2022, a compilation record called "Line in The Sand" was released on limited edition bioplastic 12" vinyl, featuring music from Hot Chip, Brian Eno, and Fay Milton from Savages.[4]

In 2023, EarthPercent launched "The Earth As Your Co-writer", an initiative allowing music artists to credit 'The Earth' as a songwriter in their music, thereby pledging a portion of the royalties to climate justice and environmental organisations.[5]

In 2024, EarthPercent was a key partner in the launch of Sounds Right, a campaign from Museum for the United Nations - UN Live which recognised 'NATURE' as a recording artist on streaming platforms for the first time. Participating musicians who have released music featuring the sounds of nature include AURORA, Ellie Goulding, London Grammar and Bomba Estereo. [6]
