History

edit

Drift Radio was established in 2021 as a radio station serving North Wales and surrounding areas.

The first broadcast was New Years Eve 2021.[1]

In 2024, the operating company was incorporated as Drift Radio CIC, a non profit Community Interest Company.

In August 2025 the station was awarded a DSP license[2] from Ofcom allowing it to broadcast on DAB+ digital radio across the North Wales coast. This coincided with the stations fifth anniversary.[3][4][5]

Programming and Community Activities

edit

Drift Radio broadcasts a schedule of locally produced programming including dance music shows featuring house, trance, techno, and related genres as well as specialist shows and event coverage. The station also hosts community events, open deck nights, and live DJ performances. Hourly national news and weather is broadcast throughout the day.

The station hosts regular community training workshops on topics such as Radio Production[6] and Presenting through to DJing skills.
