Draft:DoorDash Girl controversy

  • Comment: Seems to be borrowing heavily from my deleted article. (AfD) Strange. Copyright-wise I don't mind, but I can't remember if anyone else made significant contributions to it before it was deleted. In hindsight it was WP:TOOSOON, but as the story continues to develop it's within the realm of possibility that this becomes notable over time. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 01:15, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

The DoorDash Girl controversy refers to a 2025 legal case and social media controversy involving Olivia Henderson, a delivery driver from Oswego, New York. The customer she was delivering to had passed out on the couch and Henderson decided to record a video of him and published it on TikTok, resulting in Henderson's arrest on charges of unlawful surveillance. She was taken into custody on November 10, 2025, and made her initial court appearance on December 4.

Background and incident

edit

Olivia "Livie" Rose Henderson[1][2][3] (born 2002;[4] aged 23 at the time of the incident[1]) is a former DoorDash driver. On October 12, 2025, Henderson made a delivery for DoorDash in Oswego, New York.[5] According to Henderson, the customer had provided instructions through DoorDash to leave the food at the door.[6] When she had arrived at the customer's residence, the front door was "wide open," with an unconscious[2][1] man laying on the couch with his pants and underwear pulled down to his ankles.[1][3][7] She then used her phone to record a video of the man and published the video on TikTok where it quickly went viral online.[7][7] Henderson soon notified DoorDash about the incident, where she described it as "sexual assault."[1][8][3]

Two days after the incident,[5] Henderson reported the incident and officers began an investigation on the situation.[2] The police reported that the customer was unconscious due to alcohol consumption.[2][7] DoorDash soon deactivated the accounts of Henderson[9] and the customer[6][7] from privacy violations,[5][10] stating in a TikTok video, "Our team immediately began investigating and has been in direct contact with law enforcement, and is prepared to support any of their efforts. Posting a video of a customer in their home, and disclosing their personal details publicly, is a clear violation of our policies."[1][6][11] After TikTok took down her video, which had tens of millions of views,[10][12][13] she claimed in multiple stories that "TikTok is silencing [her] story."[6][5][14] Henderson tried to file a complaint, but police said she couldn't press charges since the man was on private property.[3][5] Following a month-long investigation, police officers found no evidence that support her claims, instead determining she broke the law by recording and posting the video of the customer.[15]

edit

On November 10, 2025, Henderson was arrested and charged with unlawful surveillance in the second degree and dissemination of an unlawful surveillance image in the first degree, both of which are Class E felonies under New York State law.[1][6][7] Henderson was scheduled to appear in Oswego City Court on December 4, 2025.[6][16][14] According to media outlets, she could face a maximum of eight years in prison if convicted on both felony counts.[6][13] Henderson requested the judge to disallow cameras in the courtroom, which was denied.[17][18][13]

Court documents contained accusations of Henderson "degrading" the man in question by filming "intimate parts of such person at a place and time when such person has a reasonable expectation of privacy, without such person's knowledge or consent."[19][18] Henderson was represented by public defender David Smallwood. Smallwood entered a not guilty plea.[2] Her father shielded her face when she left the court.[19][18] Another hearing was scheduled for January 20, 2026.[1][20][13]

Reception

edit

Her videos on TikTok resulted in many responses, both supportive and critical of her actions. Some users started to spread misinformation on TikTok about the situation, and according to Wired, TikTok's algorithm was "seemingly amplifying these "hot takes.""[10] Misinformation included deepfakes and AI-generated content.[21]
