Dian Rana (born 2 February 1988) is an Indonesian independent documentarian, author, and content creator from East Kalimantan. He is known for producing visual documentation of the development of Nusantara (IKN), Indonesia's future capital city. In 2026, 27 of his digital recordings documenting the early stages of the project were accepted by the National Archives of Indonesia (ANRI) as permanent archival records.[1][2]

Career

edit

Rana began independently documenting the Nusantara development area in 2021. Through field videos and on-site recordings, he captured the transformation of the region during the early phases of construction and shared the material through digital platforms.[3]

Between 2023 and 2024, he became known for regularly covering developments related to Nusantara's construction. In an interview with the media, Rana later said that he had reduced this activity and sought alternative sources of income as economic conditions changed and revenue from digital platforms declined.[4]

His work was also referenced in international media coverage examining the role of content creators and influencers in shaping public perceptions of Nusantara and documenting its development.[5]

Archival contributions

edit

In 2026, the National Archives of Indonesia (ANRI) accepted 27 digital records created by Rana documenting the construction of Nusantara during 2021–2022 as permanent archival materials. The handover took place as part of the commemoration of Indonesia's 55th National Archives Day, alongside archival contributions from other creators.[6]

According to ANTARA, Rana also stated that he intends to submit approximately 1,200 videos documenting the development of Nusantara to ANRI in stages for archival evaluation.[7]

Publications

edit

In 2026, Rana published Di Balik Layar Nusantara: Langkah Kecil di Tengah Sejarah Besar ("Behind the Scenes of Nusantara: Small Steps Amid Great History"), a book describing his personal experiences documenting the development of Nusantara from a citizen's perspective. The book was later discussed in an academic event at Djuanda University.[8][9]
