The Colts–Ravens rivalry is a National Football League (NFL) rivalry between the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens. As the Colts are in the AFC South, whereas the Ravens are a member of the AFC North, the two teams do not play each other annually. Instead, they play each other every three years according to the NFL's scheduling formula. They can also meet if they finish in the same place in their division standings or if they meet in the playoffs at the same time.

The Colts lead the all-time series 11–7. The two teams have met in the playoffs thrice, with the Colts leading 2–1.

History

edit

After the Baltimore Colts left for Indianapolis after the 1983 season, fans in Baltimore longed for an NFL team. Then, the Ravens entered the league as an expansion franchise in 1996, after the Cleveland Browns left the city following the 1995 season.

With this, much hatred of the Colts existed in Baltimore, wanting the new Ravens to beat the Colts. They have met in the playoffs on numerous occasions, all resulting in one of the teams reaching the Super Bowl.
