Chusé María Gimeno Aragüés (Azuara, Campo de Belchite, 1955), known as Chusé Aragüés[1], is a founding member of Icaro bookstore and books distribution center and member of El Silbo Vulnerado[2], in addition to his activity in relation to the recognition and promotion of Aragon's linguistic diversity. He is an Aragonese publisher, lexicographer and translator.
He is an historical member of the cultural association Ligallo de Fablans de l'Aragonés[3], and president of the Asociación d'Estudios y Treballos d'a Luenga Aragonesa (AESTRELA). He is also one of the Academia de l’Aragonés founding member.[4]
Career
editHis professional career is linked to the Aragonese publishing sphere, as head publisher of Prames between 1995 and 2016, and as founder of Gara d’Edizions[5] publishing house. While in charge of Prames publishing house, it became the second most important private and commercial publishing house in Aragon, and one of the three most important ones at national level, dedicated to nature and mountain themes. Today, Prames is still a reference in sport guides for mountain enthusiasts, cultural heritage books, tourist guides, CD–books, cartography, etc.
Chusé Aragüés was also founding member and head editor of the literature magazine La Duda, and, until his retirement, editor in chief of the magazine La Magia de Viajar por Aragón. From the beginning of the 1990s, Prames started publishing all the Pyrinean cartography in Aragonese – Spanish bilingual toponymy (creating a similar trend in the cartographic production of other publishing houses), as well as mountain guides in which the return paths of the routes were in Aragonese. It also has published tourist guides in this last language. Gara d'Edizionsis a cultural reference point for the study and spreading of the Aragonese language, as well as the Catalan language spoken in Aragon, having published numerous studies, informative books, essays and universal literature in these languages. All this without forgetting its collection of literature in Spanish, with interesting translations of authors from other countries, while promoting the translation of Aragonese authors into Spanish, Russian and French. Chusé Aragüés expresses his love for languages in this way: Quiero al castellano. Estic enamorat del català. Amo profundament l’aragonés.[6]
