Their father's identity has not been made public.[3] Through Bernard, Foster is a grandchild of Jay Kanter, and a relative of actor Bob Balaban, music producer Bob Thiele Jr., and actor Owen Thiele.[4] In 2014, after splitting from Bernard, Jodie married photographer and filmmaker Alexandra Hedison.[5][6]

Their first professional role was as an understudy in Bess Wohl's Camp Siegfried, which premiered off-Broadway at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theater in 2022.[11] Their television debut came later that year with a guest role on the HBO sitcom The Garcias.[12]
From 2023 to 2025, Foster primarily worked as a voice actor for podcasts, including Popcorn for Dinner, Supreme: The Battle for Roe, The Coldest Case: The Past Has a Long Memory, and The Peek with Samuel Pepys.[1][13][14]
In 2025, Foster was announced to appear in a recurring role in Scarpetta, an Amazon Prime series starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis.[15] They made their feature film debut[16] in the independent film Sparks, which premiered at the 2026 South by Southwest festival.[17][18]
