Charitha Udayakumari Willigoda Liyanage is a Sri Lankan academic, translator, and a senior lecturer in French at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Her work focuses on French language and literature, comparative literature, translation studies,francophone African and Caribbean literary traditions and feminism and anti feminism in the works of Guy de Maupassant and Martin Wickramasinghe.

Early life and education

Liyanage completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in French at the University of Kelaniya, graduating with First Class Honours. She obtained a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature from Aix-Marseille University in France. She is currently pursuing doctoral research at the University of Nantes, France.

Her doctoral research is titled Le féminisme et l’antiféminisme dans les nouvelles françaises de Guy de Maupassant et les nouvelles sri lankaises de Martin Wickramasinghe, examining feminist and anti-feminist representations in French and Sri Lankan short fiction.

Academic career

Liyanage serves as a Senior Lecturer in French in the Department of Languages, Cultural Studies & Performing Arts at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. She teaches French language, literature, culture, and translation studies.
