Pageantry

edit

In 1971, Masibay competed in the 4th edition of the Mutya ng Pilipinas national pageant. She won the top title of Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia 1971, succeeding Alice Crisostomo.[3] Her court included Cecille Galvez Abad-Santos (Mutya ng Luzon), Mercedes Ocasla Natividad (Mutya ng Visayas), and Armi Barbara Quiray Crespo (Mutya ng Mindanao), who would later win Binibining Pilipinas Universe the following year.[1]

Personal life

edit

Masibay originally hails from Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija.[4] She is the mother of the Fil-American polo player, Anthony Garcia.

After winning Mutya ng Pilipinas in 1971, Masibay Garcia became one of the primary fashion models for prominent Filipino designer Pitoy Moreno, participating in international fashion shows that included venues in London and Malaysia.[5] Following her career in modeling, she transitioned into the field of interior design.[6]

In May 2022, following the Philippine presidential elections, Masibay Garcia's name was among those floated as a potential candidate to the Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary under the incoming administration of Ferdinand Marcos Jr.[7]
