Busiinge Aggrey Isingoma (born May 22, 2000), commonly known as Busiinge Aggrey, is a Ugandan internet entrepreneur, cloud computing executive, and journalist. He is the founder and CEO of Splest, a web hosting and cloud services provider, and the founder of Abjine Capital Group, a diversified holding company with interests in cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, software development, enterprise SaaS, media production, and IT consulting. Aggrey is also the founding publisher of the Ugandan digital news platform The Black Examiner, which he sold in 2024.[1]

Early life and education

edit

Busiinge Aggrey was born on May 22, 2000, in Kakumiro District, Western Uganda. He was raised in a low-income household by a single mother living with HIV, alongside his twin brother Tumwesige Ivan and two sisters. [2] His interest in digital media and filmmaking emerged during his teenage years. While in secondary school, he founded a drama group called Elite Universal Actors and Actresses and later established Virtual Squid Productions, creating short skits and videos with a smartphone.[3] He later earned a diploma in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from the URDT Institute of Business and Media Studies.

Career

edit

Early work and filmmaking

edit

In 2018, Aggrey began his professional career as a cinematographer and video editor at Vision Films, a Ugandan film production studio. His employment ended with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which forced widespread layoffs in the industry. Rather than see this as a setback, Aggrey sold a YouTube channel to an NGO and used the proceeds to purchase a professional camera worth approximately UGX 4 million (around $1,100).[4] This launched his career as a freelance videographer, filming weddings, music videos, and corporate events. The income from these gigs provided the initial capital for his future business ventures. During this period, he also directed short films, including The Woman's Fire (2019), which earned him recognition as an emerging filmmaker in the region.[5]

Founding of Abjine Capital Group and The Black Examiner

edit

In mid-2020, Aggrey founded Abjine Productions, a film and digital content company that would later evolve into Abjine Capital Group. The name "Abjine" is an acronym formed from the names of his family members: Aggrey, Busiinge, Janet, Ivan, Nalongo (his mother's honorific as a mother of twins), and Everyone.[6] Later that year, he launched a WordPress blog called The Black Screen, which he soon rebranded as The Black Examiner. The platform grew rapidly, establishing itself as one of Uganda's fastest-growing independent digital news outlets by 2023.[7]

In early 2024, Aggrey made a strategic decision to divest from media to focus on technology infrastructure. He sold The Black Examiner and other digital assets, including Kamunye Online and The Daily Telegraph Uganda, to private investors. The proceeds were reinvested to build cloud infrastructure platforms tailored to the African market.[1]

Pivot to cloud computing: Splest

edit

With the capital from his media sales, Aggrey launched Host Darling Cloud, a cloud computing service, in 2024. Host Darling Cloud was later rebranded as Splest, a premium web hosting and domain registration company.[8] Splest is positioned as a high-end web hosting service. The platform offers over 500 domain extensions, including popular TLDs and country-specific African extensions such as .co.za, .ng, .ke, .ug, and .gh. Splest has been recognized as one of East Africa's fastest-growing cloud providers managing a portfolio of over 2,000 domains.[8]

Rebranding to Abjine Capital Group

edit

On April 5, 2026, Abjine Media Group officially rebranded and expanded its corporate structure to become Abjine Capital Group. The transition marked a strategic pivot from a pure media and production house to a diversified holding and operating company focused on building the infrastructure of tomorrow's economy.[6] The new identity reflects the company's organic growth and successful diversification beyond its roots in news media and visual production. Under the Abjine Capital umbrella, the group now builds, operates, and actively invests in ventures spanning cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, custom software development, enterprise SaaS, media production, and IT consulting. Founder and CEO Busiinge Aggrey stated, "Our story began with telling other people's stories through Abjine Media. Over the last few years, we realized we weren't just storytellers anymore; we had quietly become architects and builders."[6]

Media expansion

edit

Despite his pivot to cloud computing, Aggrey maintains a presence in digital media through Abjine Capital Group, which operates several niche publications:

  • Nairobic – A Kenya-focused digital news platform launched in 2025, covering politics, technology, business, culture, and youth issues.[9]
  • The Ghetto Post – A publication focused on amplifying stories from underrepresented urban communities in East Africa.
  • Meta Cloud – A cloud solutions brand launched in Kenya in 2026, offering cloud infrastructure and managed services under the Abjine Capital umbrella.

Recognition and leadership

edit

Aggrey has been recognized as one of Uganda's youngest and most innovative media and technology entrepreneurs. In 2025, he was profiled among Uganda's top digital media innovators, with his company Abjine Media Group (now Abjine Capital Group) noted for its power in cultivating niche digital audiences.[7] His leadership philosophy emphasizes resilience and self-reliance. In a 2025 profile by The Kamunye, Aggrey stated, "I didn't wait for change—I built it," reflecting his journey from a small-town background to becoming a leading figure in East Africa's digital economy.[2]

Personal life

edit

Aggrey is a twin; his brother, Tumwesige Ivan Kato, is a journalist and filmmaker who co-owns Abjine Capital Group.[2] He resides in Hoima, Uganda, where his companies are headquartered.
