Bhaangar: Kalakusar Karigiri is a 2025 Indian Konkani-language short documentary film directed by Prachi Shirodkar. The film documents traditional goldsmith practices in Goa and has received recognition at film festivals in India and internationally.[1][2]

Synopsis

The documentary follows goldsmith artisans in Goa, documenting traditional jewellery-making techniques using hand tools and inherited methods. Through observational footage and interviews, the film explores the cultural significance of the craft and the challenges faced by artisans in sustaining these practices in a changing economic environment.

Production

The film was produced as an independent academic project associated with Don Bosco College, Panaji. Prachi Shirodkar served as director, cinematographer, and narrator, while editing was undertaken by Mario Pimenta.[3]

Filming took place in working goldsmith workshops in Goa, focusing on real-time documentation rather than staged sequences.

Release and festival screenings

The film was released in 2025 and subsequently screened at multiple film festivals.

It received the Best Documentary award at the Miseentage Indian Film Awards in 2025.[4]

The film also won the Best Student Documentary award at the Goa International Film Competition.[5]

It was selected for screening at the NanoCon International Film Festival in the United States,[6] Jackson Doc Fest in Tennessee,[7] and the International Folklore Film Festival in Kerala in 2026.[8]
