Ben Buckby (born 28 July 2007) is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist from Leicester, England. He is an independent musician who releases his work on major streaming services and has performed at local live events.
Early life and education
editBen Buckby was born at Leicester Royal Infirmary and grew up in the county of Leicestershire, in England[1]. He studied at Brookvale Groby Learning Campus from 2023, to 2025, where he completed his A-Levels in Music, History & Geography.[1]
His interest in music started from the influence of his parents, who regularly played rock music throughout his childhood.[2]
Primarily self taught, Ben Buckby also had guitar lessons with Paul Dixon, where he shared ideas and inspiration [2]
Musical career
editBuckby began writing and recording music during his teenage years. He publishes his music independently, with releases available on platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify.[3]
His work is characterised by a guitar-led, melodic style that blends indie, acoustic, and bedroom-pop influences.
Live performances
editBuckby has performed live at small local events. Notably, he played a cover of "Cigarettes & Alcohol" by Oasis at a festival-style event called Clankfest 2025. A recording of the performance was uploaded to his YouTube channel.[4]
Musical style & Influences
editBuckby's music visits themes of nostalgia and focuses on expressive guitar work. With influences from artists and bands like Queen,Led Zeppelin and Mac Demarco, he describes his music as Indie Rock & Folk Music.
Creative Process
editWhen creating music, Buckby's process begins with creating the blue print of the music, before focusing on improvisation, and finally the lyrics (if applicable to the song).
The Year I Was Born, Breakdown
"When creating The Year I Was Born, I came up with the chords first (A and an irregular chord) to create the basic blueprint. I went over that by adding a bassline and then a mandolin. In the left ear you can hear the mandolin and in the right ear you hear an electric guitar. In the chorus, I added another guitar and drums with a kick and a hi-hat. When it came to the lyrics, I wrote a few different options and came up with a melody line, but Amelie Smith came up with lyrics, and what she did was much better, I think."
