Scholarship

edit

His scholarly papers, published in Albanian, Macedonian, English and Italian, address topics of Albanian musical folklore such as two-part polyphony, songs of emigration (kurbet songs), lullabies, wedding songs, folk musical instruments, and figures of the Albanian musical tradition. They have appeared in journals and periodicals including Etnoalb (Skopje), Studime Albanologjike and Scupi of the Institute of the Spiritual and Cultural Heritage of the Albanians (Skopje), Albanologji and Kumtime etnomuzikologjike of the Albanological Institute of Pristina, Makedonski folklor (Skopje) and Philosophica (Tetovo), as well as in scholarly publications in Italy and Turkey.[1] He has also published more than a hundred professional articles, essays and reviews on music and cultural life in the magazine Shenja and other periodicals, daily newspapers and news portals in North Macedonia.

He has presented papers at national and international conferences, symposia and congresses in North Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia (the Preševo Valley) and Italy, among them the Albanology Week of the Albanological Institute of Pristina, the international symposia of the "Marko Cepenkov" Institute of Folklore in Skopje, the music-scholarly event "Struga Musical Autumn" of the Composers' Association of Macedonia (SOKOM), and an ethnomusicological conference at the "Stanislao Giacomantonio" Conservatory of Music in Cosenza, Italy (2024), as well as scholarly conferences at the "Haxhi Zeka" University in Peja and at UBT in Lipjan, Kosovo.

His work also encompasses music notation and melography, editing, reviewing, translating and arranging musical and scholarly materials. He has transcribed more than 270 Albanian folk songs, mainly from the Polog region, and has notated around 140 choral and instrumental works by Albanian, Balkan and international composers.

As the long-time artistic director of the cultural-artistic society "Xheladin Zeqiri" of Tetovo, he has researched, documented, arranged and staged Albanian musical folklore, with particular emphasis on the tradition of the Polog region. With the ensemble he has taken part in international folklore festivals, including the 27th CIOFF International Folklore Festival in Plzeň, Czech Republic (2025), and the "Caltavuturo" festival in Sicily, Italy (2024).
