B. Gopalan (born 19 June 1946) is an Indian politician from Tamil Nadu who served as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Ootacamund Assembly constituency.

He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Ootacamund constituency in 1977 as a member of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and was re-elected in 2006 representing the Indian National Congress. During his political career, he held various leadership and administrative positions in the Nilgiris district.

Early life and education

B. Gopalan was born on 19 June 1946 in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. He became involved in politics during his student years while studying at Pachaiyappa's College.

Political career

Gopalan has been actively involved in public life and politics since his college days. He was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Ootacamund Assembly constituency in 1977 on the AIADMK ticket and later represented the constituency again in 2006 as a member of the Indian National Congress.

He served as the District Secretary of the AIADMK in the Nilgiris district from 1977 to 1987. Subsequently, he served as the District President of the Indian National Congress in the Nilgiris district from 1998 to 2008.

Other positions held

Gopalan served as Chairman of the Nilgiri District Milk Producers Union from 1980 to 1987. During his tenure, a new dairy plant was inaugurated in Ootacamund. He has also served as a Syndicate Member of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.

In addition, he served as Director of the Indo–German Project in the Nilgiris district and was associated with the administration of temple boards in the district.

Contributions to cinema

In 1979, Gopalan directed and acted in Kaalaa Thaappita Paiyilu, a film associated with the Badaga community. The film reportedly received recognition from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
