Slovenian saxophonist, composer, and producer

Boštjan Simon is a Slovenian saxophonist, composer, music pedagogue, and producer active in jazz, experimental, and improvised music. He leads the group There Be Monsters and is a member of the audiovisual ensemble Etceteral. He has collaborated with improvisers including Evan Parker and Zlatko Kaučič, and he serves in artistic roles for Slovenian festivals.[1][2]

== Education ==

Simon studied at the Music Conservatory of Ljubljana and graduated in jazz saxophone from the [[Conservatorium van Amsterdam]] (2009). He has taught saxophone at public music schools and led workshops such as Jazzinty and SAXGO masterclasses.[10]

Work in contemporary dance

Simon composes and performs for dance projects, including Resurrection 2.0 (with Beno Novak and Elvis Homan), which won Best Performance at the 2023 Gibanica Biennial.[11]

Music production and festival direction

From 2022 to 2025 Simon served as artistic director of the Sound Explicit festival in Ljubljana, and since 2016 he has been co-director of the SAXGO festival in Nova Gorica.[12][13]

Career

Simon’s primary project, There Be Monsters, has released multiple albums and appeared at festivals and venues across Europe.[14]  

He is also a core member of Etceteral, whose releases have appeared on the tak:til imprint of Glitterbeat Records.[15]  

His collaborations include a duo album with percussionist Zlatko Kaučič and performances with British saxophonist Evan Parker.[16]
