Angela Dennis is an American journalist based in Tennessee. Her reporting focuses on race, equity, local government, higher education, and African American history and culture in East Tennessee. She began her professional career as a columnist for the Knoxville News Sentinel in 2018 and became a reporter in 2020.[1]

editDennis began her journalism career as a columnist for the Knoxville News Sentinel in 2018. In 2020, she transitioned into a reporting role covering race, equity and justice, local government, and community development issues in Knoxville and surrounding areas.[1]
From 2020 to 2023, Dennis served as a podcast host for the Black in Appalachia podcast, a nationally recognized series examining African American history and experiences in the Appalachian region. The podcast was named a “must-listen” by The New York Times.[2]
Dennis has contributed reporting to outlets including Tennessee Lookout, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, Capital B News, and Compass Knoxville.
In 2023, Dennis was selected as a fellow in the Maynard 200 Fellowship through the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education.[3] The fellowship is a national leadership and media entrepreneurship program designed to train journalists of color in business strategy, leadership development, and sustainable media innovation.

Her five-part interview package with legendary civil rights activist and poet Nikki Giovanni received a first-place award from the Tennessee Press Association.
