The Ambush near Kleçkë was a hit-and-run engagement between the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and Yugoslav security forces in August 1998 during the Kosovo War. KLA units ambushed a Yugoslav patrol in the village of Kleçkë, resulting in KLA commander Ismet Jashari being killed and tactical withdrawal of KLA forces.
Background
editDuring 1998, the Kleçkë region was part of a wider zone of conflict in central Kosovo, where armed clashes and ambushes between the KLA and Yugoslav security forces intensified amid escalating violence.
