Alpha is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Shiv Rawail in his feature film debut and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. The seventh installment in the YRF Spy Universe and the first female-led spy film in the universe, it stars Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and R. Madhavan. It will follow the events of Pathaan, Tiger 3 and War 2.

Following a title announcement in July 2024, principal photography began in the same month, taking place in Mumbai, Kashmir, and Valladolid.[1]

Yash Raj Films officially announced the project on 4 October 2024, positioning it as a flagship entry in their YRF Spy Universe.[2] Shiv Rawail, known for the Netflix series The Railway Men, was recruited by producer Aditya Chopra to helm the film as director, marking Rawail's first collaboration with YRF.[3] Chopra emphasized the film's role in expanding the spyverse with "homegrown talent and fresh narratives."[4]

Casting

Alia Bhatt and Sharvari were cast as the main female lead in July 2023.[5] Bobby Deol joined the film in March 2024 as the main antagonist.[6] Anil Kapoor was cast in July 2024 and will reprise his role from 2025 film War 2.[7] Hrithik Roshan was confirmed to make a cameo appearance in August 2024, reprising his role as Kabir Dhaliwal.[8] Ashutosh Rana was confirmed to reprise his role from War series and 2023 film Pathaan in February 2025.[9] Dibyendu Bhattacharya joined the cast in March 2025.[10] R. Madhavan joined the cast in March 2026.

Filming

Principal photography began in July 2024,[11] with filming taking place in Mumbai and Kashmir. The Kashmir schedule, filmed in Sonamarg and Pahalgam, concluded in September 2024 after delays due to adverse weather.[12] A high-octane fight sequence between Sharvari and Deol was filmed in this schedule, described by Sharvari as "physically demanding but exhilarating".[13] Roshan joined the production in November 2024 for his cameo shoot in Mumbai.[14] Filming concluded on 31 August 2025.

Music

The film's soundtrack has been composed by Aaishvary Thackeray, with the score composed by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara.[15]

Release

Alpha is scheduled for theatrical release on 3 July 2026 in Hindi and dubbed versions of Tamil and Telugu languages. It was initially slated to release on 25 December 2025, coinciding with Christmas and Tulsi Pujan Diwas.[2] It was later postponed to 17 April 2026, due to extensive post-production work and ongoing reshoots.[16] It was then indefinitely postponed again to avoid clash with Salman Khan and Chitrangada Singh starrer Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, which in turn got postponed from April 17th, due to production delays and reshoots.[17]
