Alliance Media is a privately held international out-of-home advertising (OOH) company founded in 1997.[1][2] The company operates as both an outdoor media owner and an OOH agency, managing 25,000 OOH sites.[3][4]

History

edit

Alliance Media was founded in 1997 around a model of providing bus shelters to commuters, with the shelters funded through advertising revenue. The arrangement brought together city councils, advertisers, and the company, which is where the name "Alliance" came from. Coca-Cola was its first advertising client.[1] The company later expanded into billboard advertising and other OOH formats across multiple countries.

Operations

edit

Alliance Media owns and operates its own advertising inventory, selling space directly to clients. Its formats include static and digital billboards, airport displays, bus and rail advertising, street furniture, and mall advertising.[1]

Recognition

edit

Alliance Media has received several industry awards:

  • Best Media Owner Africa at the 2017 MOST Awards, rising from third place the previous year to first.[5]
  • Best Out of Home Media Owner in South Africa and Best Media Owner in Africa at the 2018 MOST Awards, competing against 25 OOH companies.[6][7]
  • PMR Africa Diamond Award for Best Billboard Company in Botswana, 2017.[8]
  • PMR Africa Diamond Arrow for Best Outdoor Advertising Company in Zambia, 2017.[3]
  • Overall winner in the OOH category at the PMR Awards in Namibia, 2019, having received the award for over ten consecutive years.[9][10]
  • Featured in the Superbrands East Africa publication across multiple editions.[1]

Notable campaigns

edit

In October 2025, Goldman Sachs used Alliance Media's network in Kuwait City for a digital out-of-home campaign timed to the opening of its Kuwait office. The campaign ran across commercial sites in key areas of the city.[11]

Industry participation

edit

Alliance Media joined the World Out of Home Organization (WOO) in 2023.[12] Greg Benatar, the company's managing director, spoke at the WOO Africa Forum in Cape Town in March 2024, which was the organisation's first in-person event on the continent.[4][13]
