Draft:All-time table of the UEFA Champions League and the European Cup

The all-time table for the UEFA Champions League and the European Cup is a statistical list of all the teams that have taken part in the UEFA Champions League or the European Cup – as the competition was known until the 1991/92 season – since the inaugural 1955/56 season.

The basis for this is UEFA’s all-time ranking, which uses the old two-point system.

However, as is customary in other all-time tables, this article bases its calculations on the currently applicable three-point system (three points for a win, one point for a draw). The table takes into account all matches played, including group stage, play-off and qualifying matches. Results of matches decided by a penalty shoot-out or coin toss are not included; in such cases, the result after extra time applies.

The article also includes an all-time table dating back to 1992, i.e. since the introduction of the UEFA Champions League. This table does not include preliminary round, play-off or qualifying matches; otherwise, the same rules apply as in the all-time table dating back to 1955.

In this ranking, two points are awarded for a win, one for a draw, and zero for a loss. Following statistical convention in football, matches decided in extra time are counted as wins and losses, while matches decided by penalty shoot-outs are counted as draws. Teams are ranked by total points, then by goal difference, then by goals scored. Only the top twenty-five are listed (includes qualifying rounds).
