Alessandro Bertozzi (born 1965) is an Italian saxophonist, arranger and composer active in jazz and fusion. Early life and education
editBertozzi was born in Busseto (Parma). He began studying clarinet and saxophone at a young age and later trained as a luthier, graduating from the International School of Violin Making "Antonio Stradivari" in Cremona. [1]
Career
editBertozzi released several albums as a leader, including Big City Dreamer (1998) and Talkin' Back (2003), the latter recorded in New York and featuring guest appearances by Bob James and Hiram Bullock. [1] His album Crystals (released by Egea) has been described as a smooth-jazz/funk/soul record featuring guest musicians including John Patitucci and Randy Brecker. [3]
Trait d'union (2020)
editIn 2020 he released Trait d’union, a project combining elements of blues, jazz and funk with African-influenced rhythms and vocals. The album was released on Level49 and features Pap Yeri Samb (voice), Andrea Pollione (keyboards), Alex Carreri (bass), Maxx Furian (drums) and Ernesto da Silva (percussion). [2][4]
The Verdi Sessions
editBertozzi later developed The Verdi Sessions, a crossover project that reinterprets selected arias by Giuseppe Verdi through jazz arrangements and improvisation, featuring mezzo-soprano Anna Maria Chiuri alongside a jazz rhythm section. [5] The project has appeared in festival programming, including the Val Tidone Festival listing for "Bertozzi – Chiuri: The Verdi Sessions". [6]
