Air India Express Flight IX712 was a scheduled international flight from Muscat International Airport, Oman, to Kannur International Airport, India, that suffered an accident during its takeoff roll on 15th May, 2026.
While executing the night departure, the Boeing 737-800 mistakenly aligned with the runway edge lights instead of the centreline, striking and destroying several light fixtures as it accelerated. The flight crew immediately initiated a rejected takeoff and brought the aircraft to a stop. While no one suffered any injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage, including a flat tire, a hydraulic leak, and severe engine damage from foreign object debris (FOD) ingestion. The occurrence was officially classified as an accident by Oman’s Air Accidents Investigation Sector (AAIS).
