The Kismet train collision occurred on June 14, 2006 at around 5:51 am PDT when an eastbound BNSF unit train collided head-on with a westbound BNSF cement train at East Kismet Siding in Kismet, California due to the crew of the eastbound failing to follow signals properly which resulted in seven locomotives and sixteen freight cars from both trains derailing. The incident gained notoriety due to a dashcam video from the westbound's leading engine (BNSF 4479) being released to the public. The total cost for all damages totaled to about US$5.3 million.[1][2][3]
