Doris Behrens-Abouseif

Doris Behrens-Abouseif (born 1946, Alexandria, Egypt[1]) is a scholar of Islamic art and architecture. She is professor emerita at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.[2]

She obtained her master's degree at the American University in Cairo and then her doctorate at the University of Hamburg in 1972.[2][3] She subsequently held academic positions at the American University in Cairo and LMU Munich.[4] From 2000 to 2014, she was the Nasser D. Khalili Chair of Islamic Art and Archaeology at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.[2] Her research interests are largely focused on the arts and culture of Egypt and Syria in the Islamic period.[2][5]
