Featured picture candidates Featured picture candidates are images that the community will vote on, to determine whether or not they will be highlighted as some of the finest on Commons. This page lists the candidates to become featured pictures. The picture of the day images are selected from featured pictures. Old candidates for featured pictures are listed in the log pages and in the candidate archives. There are also chronological lists of featured pictures: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026 and current month. Formal thingsNominatingGuidelines for nominatorsPlease read the complete guidelines before nominating. This is a summary of what to look for when submitting and reviewing FP candidates:
Artworks, illustrations, and historical documentsThere are many different types of non-photographic media, including engravings, watercolors, paintings, etchings, and various others. Hence, it is difficult to set hard-and-fast guidelines. However, generally speaking, works can be divided into three types: Those that can be scanned, those that must be photographed, and those specifically created to illustrate a subject. Works that must be photographed include most paintings, sculptures, works too delicate or too unique to allow them to be put on a scanner, and so on. For these, the requirements for photography, below, may be mostly followed; however, it should be noted that photographs which cut off part of the original painting are generally not considered featurable. Works that may be scanned include most works created by processes that allow for mass distribution − for instance, illustrations published with novels. For these, it is generally accepted that a certain amount of extra manipulation is permissible to remove flaws inherent to one copy of the work, since the particular copy – of which hundreds, or even thousands of copies also exist – is not so important as the work itself. Works created to serve a purpose include diagrams, scientific illustrations, and demonstrations of contemporary artistic styles. For these, the main requirement is that they serve their purpose well. Provided the reproduction is of high quality, an artwork generally only needs one of the following four things to be featurable:
Digital restorations must also be well documented. An unedited version of the image should be uploaded locally, when possible, and cross-linked from the file description page. Edit notes should be specified in detail, such as "Rotated and cropped. Dirt, scratches, and stains removed. Histogram adjusted and colors balanced." PhotographsOn the technical side, we have focus, exposure, composition, movement control and depth of field.
On the graphic elements we have shape, volume, color, texture, perspective, balance, proportion, noise, etc.
You will maximise the chances of your nominations succeeding if you read the complete guidelines before nominating. Video and audioPlease nominate videos, sounds, music, PDFs, etc. at Commons:Featured media candidates. Set nominationsIf a group of images are thematically connected in a direct and obvious way, they can be nominated together as a set. A set should fall under one of the following types:
Adding a new nominationIf you believe that you have found or created an image that could be considered valuable, with appropriate name, quality, image description, categories and licensing, then do the following. Step 1: copy the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box, for example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Your image filename.jpg. Then click on the "create new nomination" button. All single files: For renominations, simply add /2 after the filename. For example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Foo.jpg/2
All set nomination pages should begin "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/", e.g. "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/My Nomination".
Step 3: manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list: Click here, and add the following line to the TOP of the nominations list:
Nominations are time-sensitive and for one-time use only. An automatic clock starts as soon as they are created. Do not create them in advance, save them for later or re-activate them. Galleries and FP categories: Please add a gallery page and section heading from the list at Commons FP galleries. Write the code as Page name#Section heading. For example: Optional: if you are not the creator of the image, please notify them using
An 'Alternative' is created by adding a sub-section to the nomination page: ====Alternative==== VotingEditors whose accounts have at least 10 days and 100 constructive, stable edits on Commons (excluding user and talk pages) can vote. Everybody can vote for their own nominations. Anonymous (IP) votes are not allowed. You may use the following templates:
You may indicate that the image has no chance of success with the template reason - ~~~~, where reason explains why the image is clearly unacceptable as a FP. The template can only be used when there are no support votes other than the one from the nominator. A well-written review helps participants (photographers, nominators and reviewers) improve their skills by providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of a picture. Explain your reasoning, especially when opposing a candidate (which has been carefully selected by the author/nominator). English is the most widely understood language on Commons, but any language may be used in your review. A helpful review will often reference one or more of the criteria listed above. Unhelpful reasons for opposing include:
Remember also to put your signature (~~~~). Featured picture delisting candidatesOver time, featured picture standards change. It may be decided that for some pictures which were formerly "good enough", this is no longer the case. This is for listing an image which you believe no longer deserves to be a featured picture. For these, vote:
This can also be used for cases in which a previous version of an image was promoted to FP, but a newer version of the image has been made and is believed to be superior to the old version, e.g. a newly edited version of a photo or a new scan of a historical image. In particular, it is not intended for replacing older photos of a particular subject with newer photos of the same subject, or in any other case where the current FP and the proposed replacement are essentially different images. For these nominations, vote:
If you believe that some picture no longer meets the criteria for FP, you can nominate it for delisting, copying the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box: In the new delisting nomination page just created you should include:
After that, you have to manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list. As a courtesy, leave an informative note on the talk page(s) of the original creator, uploader(s), and nominator with a link to the delisting candidate. can be used for this purpose. Featured picture candidate policyGeneral rules
Featuring and delisting rulesA candidate will become a featured picture in compliance with following conditions:
The delisting rules are the same as those for FPs, with voting taking place over the same time period. The rule of the 5th day is applied to delisting candidates that have received no votes to delist, other than that of the proposer, by day 5. The FPCBot handles the vote counting and closing in most cases, current exceptions are candidates containing multiple versions (“alternatives”) of the image as well as delist-and-replace nominations. Any experienced user may close the requests not handled by the bot. For instructions on how to close nominations, see Commons:Featured picture candidates/What to do after voting is finished. Also note that there is a manual review stage between when the bot has counted the votes and before the nomination is finally closed by the bot; this manual review can be done by any user familiar with the voting rules. Hint: Until summer 2025, the bot was also not able to process FPXed, FPDed and withdrawn nominations as well as delist nominations; this has been fixed, users do not need to close such nominations anymore. Above all, be politePlease don't forget that the image you are judging is somebody's work. Avoid using phrases like "it looks terrible" and "I hate it". If you must oppose, please do so with consideration. Also remember that your command of English might not be the same as someone else's. Choose your words with care. Happy judging… and remember… all rules can be broken. See also

Comment Even though it is on a man-made jetty, I think your existing FP of this species is much better. Charlesjsharp (talk) 15:57, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks dear Charles for your comment, I appreciate the criticism. In the old FP version, which is not the current one, the whole animal is not in focus, and there is also a lack of depth of field. I believe the image works better now, showing the animal in its natural environment. Also, the older version had some Photoshop editing that I now consider excessive Wilfredor (talk) 16:44, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

- Thanks Wilfredor, I did the process again (high pass filter) saving with metadatas and next apply compression without loss of quality --Ezarateesteban 13:40, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Now why the image occupies less space than the original?, I would kindly suggest that any edits to other users’ photographs be made in a separate new file, with a detailed description of the changes and clear attribution to the original author. That said, in my view, editing a photograph that is already QI and used in a Wiki entry—especially one in which I am also involved on Wiki Love Earth not be the most appropriate approach. I believe it would be better to preserve the original file and upload any modified version separately. Wilfredor (talk) 14:15, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

Support The previously nominated pano was criticised for being ultrwide and for lacking sharpness, so nominating this closer view with better sharpness. The hills are located some 25 kilometres away (as the crow flies), and are often not visible from the city due to pollution, fog or clouds. Oppose Really sorry. It's better, but I'm still not seeing anything in the way of composition. All the leading lines are completely horizontal so there is nothing to provide tension in the composition. I think the choice not to perspective correct and to go for a low shooting position is a sensible one in this case, a kind of 'mouse-eye view' is good for emphasising the size and space of a large religious building. Info A high-resolution, 100-megapixel fragment of the Mandelbrot set, rendered using Perturbation Theory. The high-precision reference trajectory is computed exactly once, enabling blazing-fast computation for billions of pixels using hardware-native double registers (with a 1e-308 hardware limit). Features True SSAA 8x8 anti-aliasing (64 independent samples per pixel) for perfect detail clarity. Originally rendered at 80,000 x 80,000 pixels and downscaled to 10,000 x 10,000. C++ source code is included. Ultimately, it is an infinite mathematical structure that has always existed. Created, uploaded and nominated by Aokoroko -- Aokoroko (talk) 07:32, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Neutral Looks very good in thumbnail and is a beautiful motif. But imho the level of detail and the leck of consistent sharpness are not sufficient for a pro vote. --Tuxyso (talk) 19:39, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yes, I really like this clock! If the photo doesn't get nominated this time, maybe I'll be able to photograph it again someday. It's definitely worth the FP as an object. Krigore (talk) 21:01, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose Sorry, the subject is great but I don't think this level of detail and sharpness is enough considering the relatively low resolution. I am also not usually convinced by the cut-out-and-stick-on-a-white-background approach. Cmao20 (talk) 20:31, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! I added it because I really like this photo — but well, in my opinion, the quality is borderline. Unfortunately, the camera equipment was good for the time, but well, that was a while ago. As for the background — I don't really like cutouts either, but here, there was a rather odd-looking square in the background; I think it's better now. Anyway, take a look at the file history and you'll see what I mean. Krigore (talk) 20:59, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
Oppose I concur with Cmao20. The editing in some bordering areas could also be better. Furthermore the item is distorted and would have benefited from a PC or a different POV Poco a poco (talk) 11:44, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Info The smallest house in Wernigerode was built in 1792; it is only 2.95 meters wide and has an eaves height of 4.20 meters, while the entrance door is just 1.7 meters high (please compare it with the doors of the houses to its right and left). It was inhabited until 1976 and is now owned by the city of Wernigerode; created by Llez – uploaded by Llez – nominated by Llez -- Llez (talk) 08:14, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Neutral I'm not wowed here, sorry. Will not oppose but lighting is ordinary and what makes the subject special is not really visible because we cannot really compare this house to the neighbouring ones. Poco a poco (talk) 11:33, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment:Yes; would it work if you include the normal size doors at least? Charlesjsharp (talk) 20:53, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Info The doors of the neighboring houses are only partially visible; since the image is not cropped at the sides, no additional angle showing neighboring doors can be displayed here. However, at least one door and one window of one of the neighboring houses are fully visible in this image. --Llez (talk) 05:21, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

Support Wonderful image, but could use an improved file name. Can you get a file mover to rename it for you with something more descriptive and specific. The image is oustanding, but the description doesn't capture the rodent (vole I presume) in the air or the drama of what unfolded, or where, etc. I won't let that hold up the support, however, because it is brilliant. --Needsmoreritalin (talk) 19:49, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Needsmoreritalin: Hi, I can rename it to "Red fox caught the mouse". Other opinions? Юрий Д.К. 20:06, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- Its a great shot. I don't know the location or the species of rodent, but I see you are in Moscow - so if the shot was close to home this might help - A Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) catches a bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) (location)(Country) might work.
- I am assuming its a bank vole, buit it could be Microtus arvalis or Microtus agrestis. And while I am not 100% sure - I do believe it is a vole rather than a mouse.
- And once again - a great photo! Needsmoreritalin (talk) 21:57, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

Oppose I would be proud to take this photo, but a few things prevent me from supporting: (a) the standard for common kingfisher photos at FPC is pretty high (we have eleven: Category:Featured pictures of Alcedo atthis); (b) the noise reduction is intense enough to appear kind of like a painting at 100% (although this is really just speaking again to the standards for this species); (c) this looks more like a failed fishing effort than bathing (this one is fixable, of course). — Rhododendrites talk | 20:48, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

On the little plateau of the Abbaye de Saint-Roman I once noticed the sound of a single cicada and thought I could easily locate it. It even did me the favour to stay in the same place and to keep on with its solo. But it still took me a long time to spot it on a tree trunk. Comment Another animal bred in captivity. Charlesjsharp (talk) 11:27, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- While wild photos are obviously better where possible, harvest mice are very elusive and hard to capture in the wild; I think captive photo is better than no photo. LetmeEditit (talk) 11:55, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
- As Charles noted, keeping an animal confined for the sake of creating a beautiful composition raises ethical concerns? Wilfredor (talk) 00:50, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Ultimately, it's a moral question with no true "correct" answer. Personally, I'm fine with it, as long as the animal is happy and well-cared for. From what I can see, the British Wildlife Centre appears to be a decent facility, with animal welfare in mind. Of course, one cannot ask a mouse if it is happy, but the same goes for wild mice. LetmeEditit (talk) 11:29, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for answer, from my point of view, not very different from photos of dogs and cats Wilfredor (talk) 12:11, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with this comment. Dogs were once wild...wait, correction, they're ancestors were. Mice, like dogs, have lived alongside people for thousands of years, gradually becoming more accustomed to human presence as time wore on. In recent decades, mice have become increasingly popular pets renowned for their cuteness and intelligence. That said, I think of mice as "pests that can be pets", because they are not quite a household name like cats or dogs but they are getting there. If this had been a truly wild animal I'd have agreed with Charles' comment. Wolverine X-eye 15:38, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

Oppose We've already promoted two photos of captive harvest mice in photogenic positions that do not contain any disclosure of the photo being staged. If we were going to promote another, IMO it should be vastly superior, which this one is not -- and oppose captive photos being presented without transparency in general. — Rhododendrites talk | 20:58, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

- Yes, it’s possible that there are towels and sticharions that were used in the baptist ceremony. I think it’s more a tradition to hung them on the door than it’s an efficient method to dry them out. --Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 11:44, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

Support For a shot taken without focus layers, the image has turned out very well, although I would have liked a bit more depth of field. This type of fly is quite chilled, and I was even able to create focus stacks of a related species over a period of several minutes. Support The photo was taken at midday, which makes the shadows very pronounced, especially the prominent shadow on the left cast by the dam. However, it seems uniform and doesn't bother me too much; I'm more bothered by the photos of the bridge in the lower part. The colors seem natural, and the profile looks like it was taken in the 80s. Overall, the quality is good; there wasn't much cropping in the shot. I do miss better focus on the meadows in the background and a view further to the right. --Wilfredor (talk) 20:50, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

Info I didn't mean to be disrespectful or impose my opinion as dogmatic. As I have often explained in the many years spent here, for me the default state of a candidate is "not promoted". An image should be recognized as worth of a FP star not because it lacks obvious flaws, but due to its extraordinary qualities or value. That is why I consider more important to justify a support than an oppose vote. -- Alvesgaspar (talk) 10:40, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

Info Macro photograph of the entomopathogenic "Zombie fungus" (Paraisaria gracilis, syn. Ophiocordyceps gracilis) growing from mossy soil in the alluvial forest of the "Hördter Rheinaue" nature reserve. Created, uploaded and nominated me -- Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 03:29, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Abstain as author. This photograph of a ‘zombie mushroom’ is like winning the lottery. Not because the mushroom is extremely rare, but because its tiny size makes it very difficult to find. That is why we have very few photographs of this species in our collection – an no FPs of this taxonomic order. I spotted it in the moss whilst searching for morels. The spore-bearing structure measures only about 5 mm; the focus series was taken at approximately a 1:1 scale. -- Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 03:29, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Support I like the composition, the lighting and the colors. I can nearly smell the wet forest floor. Nice! --Granada (talk) 05:12, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment With this type of file name you may lead people to believe Achim-Lammerts is some part of a scientific name. Charlesjsharp (talk) 08:55, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don’t think that’s the situation, Charles. It is quite common practice for file names to include the date, camera model, image number and author. Or do people actually believe that, for example, ‘IMG_0815’ is part of the taxonomic classification? That said, I don’t understand why, after 20 years, this software is still unable to distinguish a file’s title from its image filename. Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 12:38, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Support but I agree with Charles. It should be renamed. Yann (talk) 11:04, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Support But, please fix the name --Wilfredor (talk) 13:21, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment @Yann, @Wilfredor: Thank you very much for your review. Does the author’s name in the title only bother you in my case, or does it also bother you as well, for example, in the posts by Tisha Mukherjee, Giles Laurent and Don Ramey Logan? Shouldn’t we then remove the authors’ names from all files? Why hasn’t this bothered you before, even in my nominations?
The naming convention complies with the guidelines; it includes, for example, the correct taxonomic name or the location where the photo was taken, as well as the date taken and the catalogue number to distinguish it from other images on the same subject (file names must be unique). Furthermore, the name should be kept short, which is why I avoid prefixes such as ‘Photo by’. --Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 13:42, 12 June 2026 (UTC)- There's no rule requiring a specific format for file names, just a general practice you can see in other nominated photos. So the file name alone shouldn't be a valid reason to oppose.
- Most of this information already exists elsewhere anyway. The date is usually in the image description, the author can be indicated there too, and the camera data is in the EXIF at the bottom of the page. Apart from the main subject, everything else in the file name is redundant.
- Redundancy isn't necessarily noise, though. When a name ends with "by ...", anyone understands that person is the author. The problem is when the name starts with something like "2026-04-04 Z5-3850E". First you have to figure out if the date is YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-DD-MM. Then what "Z5" means — I happen to know it's a camera model, but not everyone does. And "3850E" looks like a sequence number or internal code, which isn't obvious either. Putting all of that at the beginning, before the actual subject, is what creates noise: the reader has to decode several things before getting to what the photo is about. Same with "Achim-Lammerts" appearing before the subject without "by" — someone could read it as part of the subject's name, the name of a mushroom species for example. So I'm not objecting to including extra information. I'm objecting to placing it where it makes the name harder to read and easy to misread. A clear name puts the subject first and leaves the author, date, camera or internal codes where they don't get in the way. Wilfredor (talk) 14:18, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- I know what you mean, and that’s why I find it annoying that the file title has to be tied to the filename. For me, this naming convention offers huge advantages when it comes to organizing my archive, as it allows me to sort images into overviews directly within the file system. Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 14:47, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- It would be good to report what you're saying on Phabricator; it would really improve image readability. Wilfredor (talk) 15:54, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment I have for many years always tried to use "Subject" "Location" "Author" เก my file names. By including Author, it makes the user think twice before publishing the work without proper attribution. Don (talk) 20:10, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

- The author's name is fine, but here, it is ambiguous. File:2026-04-04 Z5-3850E Ophiocordyceps-gracilis by Achim-Lammerts.jpg should be OK. comment by Yann that forget sign --Wilfredor (talk) 14:21, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don’t think the title is ambiguous in this case, nor is it in any of my other 800 contributions. That’s never been a problem when I’ve posted my botany photos on FP. The image is currently being assessed by WLE 2026, and I don’t want to disrupt that process anyway. For future contributions, I will adjust the naming convention I use to "Theme or subject at location (Date Catalogue Author).jpg" like other contributors do. Would that be alright for now? --Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 14:33, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

- Thank you very much for your review. These five nominations are also currently under consideration, and so far no one has complained about their file names:
- File:Црква „Рождество на Пресвета Богородица“ - Бориево 4.jpg
- File:20260513 Delta Goodrem Z09 7846.jpg
- File:ইজতেমায় একসাথে প্রার্থনায় লাখো মুসল্লি.jpg
- File:Малая Истра июньским утром.jpg
- File:Смоларски манастир 4.jpg
- In principle, the same problem applies here as with my nomination: not everyone here can make sense of these file names at first glance. Nevertheless, no one is complaining; such file names have never been criticised in the past either. To me, it is absolutely clear that the file name is not the title of a file. For me, the title of a file is most likely the one-line short description in the SDC block below the image. It is also absolutely essential that the file name must be unique for system reasons. For example, there cannot be two ‘kitten.jpg’ files; with 1 million cat images, how would one distinguish between them in the file name?
- Furthermore, the date at the start of the file name is the only way to sort the images in a category by date taken, at least in chronological ascending order. Perhaps this should be discussed in detail in the forum, if it is so enormously important for the basic evaluation of an image. Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 12:23, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- I translated the file names you have quoted and it appears that for all of them the first full word is the description of the subject of the picture, as we would expect. The fact that it's written in other alphabets is not a problem.
- I have no problem with the "2026-04-04 Z5-3850E" at the beginning of the image, but I agree with others that having the first full words be "Achim-Lammerts" while being glued to "Ophiocordyceps-gracilis" makes it look like the subject is a mushroom called "Achim-Lammerts Ophiocordyceps-gracilis". That's why "Ophiocordyceps-gracilis by Achim-Lammerts" would make things more clear in my opinion -- Giles Laurent (talk) 13:28, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
- As I mentioned above, I will be updating the naming convention for future uploads and, where necessary, changing existing file names, provided they are not currently nominated in “Wiki Loves ...” competitions. Achim Lammerts • Syntaxys (talk) 14:29, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

- It was 6 years ago, but i remember that it was a motion blur deconvolution and not a AI sharpening. AI sharpen creates skin texture, although it depends on how it's applied. In this case, motion blur deconvolution doesn't create anything; instead, it takes the data from the same photograph and moves the motion blur in the opposite direction, leaving the image sharp. Weak oppose Sorry but I miss an outstanding composition here. Very high quality but I feel like I neither get a good idea of how the bridge looks (because the shooting position is too close to the bridge itself) nor do I get any interesting abstract forms. I am aware this picture is objectively strong in quality terms, and I will withdraw my vote if I'm the only person blocking a five day promotion. Cmao20 (talk) 03:11, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
Info @Wilfredor I used 1st Hi-Res in 2021 here [1], i think Olympus made first handheld option too. Used in cameras which got in-body Sensor Shift in (sensor optical stabilization), cams with IS in lens couldnt use it. Here is from hand (50 Mpx), from tripod you can have (80Mpx). Isnt same as using camera with that pixelage, but got close, dynamic range is also biger up to FF level. @Cmao20 OK, i just think compo is perfect here. I got more view-compos of it, just bridge this was my choice. I am editing one with town too, but thats different. --Mile (talk) 08:05, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

Closing nominations manually
The following description explains how to close nominations manually. Normally this is not necessary, as FPCBot takes care of counting the votes, closing and archiving the nominations. When the Bot has counted the votes, a user needs to check and approve the result; everything else is done by the Bot. Therefore, the following instructions are normally only needed for delist-and-replace nominations that the Bot cannot (yet) process, and in case the Bot malfunctions. The closing can be done by any experienced user. If you need help, just ask on the FPC talk page.
Closing a featured picture nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the nomination, then [edit].
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):

(You can leave thegalleryparameter blank if the image was not featured. If the nomination contains alternatives, you must add thealternative=xxxparameter with the name of the selected image between thegalleryand thesigparameter. See FPC-results-reviewed for examples and more explanations.) - Edit the title of the nomination and add
featuredornot featuredafter the link – for example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, featured === - Save your edit.
- Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
- If it is featured:
- Add the picture to the list of the four most recently featured pictures of an appropriate gallery of Commons:Featured pictures, list as the first one and delete the last one, so that the number is four again.
- Add the picture to the appropriate featured picture gallery page and section. Click on the most appropriate link beneath where you just added it as one of the four images on Commons:Featured pictures, list to find the gallery page, and search for the correct section. (An image should only appear ONE time in the galleries. After a successful nomination, the image can be placed in several of the Featured pictures categories.)
- Add the template
to the image description page.- If it was an alternative image or part of a set nomination, use the
com-nomparameter. For example, if File:Foo.jpg was promoted in the nominationCommons:Featured picture candidates/File:Bar.jpg, useYou also need thecom-nomparameter if the image gets renamed. - If the image is already featured on another Wikipedia, just add
featured=1to the Assessments template. For instance, becomes
- If it was an alternative image or part of a set nomination, use the
- Head over to the structured data for the image and add the “Commons quality assessment” claim (P6731) “Wikimedia Commons featured picture” (Q63348049).
- Add the picture to the chronological archives of featured pictures. Place it at the end of the gallery using this format:
File:xxxxx.jpg|# Title<br>created by xxxxx, uploaded by xxxxx, nominated by xxxxx<br> xxx, xxx, xxx- The
#should be replaced by 1 for the first image nominated that month, and counts up after that. Have a look at the other entries on that page for examples. (If you want to do everything perfectly, link that number to the nomination subpage, just like FPCBot does this. It allows users to jump directly to the nomination.) - The
Titleshould be replaced by the bare name of the featured picture, without the ‘File:’ or the file extension (such as .jpg .tif .svg). - The
xinx, x, xshould be replaced by the count of support, oppose, and neutral votes respectively. - If the nomination was a set nomination, use this format:
File:xxxxx.jpg|# Set: Title (Z files)<br>created by xxxxx, uploaded by xxxxx, nominated by xxxxx<br> x, x, x
Replace theZin(Z files)by the count of images in the set, and use the name of the first image from the set instead ofFile:xxxxx.jpgand for the title.
- The
- Add
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the nominator. For set nominations, use:== Set Promoted to FP ==, using the names of the set files instead of the XXXXXX and the title of the set instead of YYYYY.
<gallery>
File:XXXXXX.jpg
File:XXXXXX.jpg
</gallery>
YYYYY - Add
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the user who has uploaded the image, if that user is not the same as the nominator. - Add
FP promotion
File:XXXXX.jpgto the talk page of the creator, if the author is a different Commons user than nominator and uploader.
- Add candidate archive categories to the nomination so that people can easily find and evaluate past nominations (this applies also to unsuccessful, FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations). It’s best practice to wrap all these categories in a
<noinclude>...</noinclude>section because they apply only to the nomination itself, not to the log page etc. which transclude it. You need three or four categories:- A category for the month and year, like Category:June 2026 featured picture candidates for the current month.
- A category for the type and result of the nomination, like Category:2026 successful candidates for featured picture status; replace “successful” by “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn”, depending on the final result of the nomination (see the supercategory for common values).
- A category for the subject of the nomination, like Category:2026 featured picture candidates of plants. Replace “plants” by one of the possible subject keywords like “animals”, “architecture”, etc.; see the base category for all common keywords. Basically the subject keywords correspond to the first part of the gallery link.
- If the nomination is a set nomination, add Category:2026 featured picture set nominations.
- As the last step (whether the image is featured or not; including FPX-d, FPD-d and Withdraw-n nominations), you have to move the transclusion (the and the text within those) of the nomination to the current log page.
- To find the current log page, visit the first page of the log for this month. If the header of that page contains a link with the text “Next part of this month”, the log for this month has been split into several parts because it contains too many entries. Click on the “Next part …” link and repeat this until you reach a page where the header does not offer a “Next part …” link; that’s the last and current log page.
- Now open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination you are closing. It will be of the form:
or:. - Copy that line to the bottom of the current log page and save that page. Then remove the same line from the candidate list and save that page.
Closing a delisting nomination
- On Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line):
(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/File:Ensifera ensifera (22271195865).jpg) - Edit the title of the delisting nomination and add
delistedornot delistedafter the image title; for example:=== :File:XXXXX.jpg ===
becomes=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, delisted === - Add candidate archive categories to the nomination; this works the same way as described above for featured picture nominations. The only difference is that the category for type and status must be of the form Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting from featured picture status, or Category:2026 successful candidates for delisting and replacing featured pictures if this is a delist-and-replace nomination. Substitute “unsuccessful”, “FPXed”, “FPDed” or “withdrawn” for “successful”, depending on the final result of the nomination.
- Move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
- If the outcome was not delisted, stop here. If it is delisted:
- Remove the picture from Commons:Featured pictures, list and any subpages.
- Edit the picture's description as follows:
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
featured=1tofeatured=2(do not remove the Assessments template; do not change anything related to its status in other featured picture processes). If the image description page uses the old Featured picture template, replace it with. - Remove the image from all categories beginning with "Featured [pictures]" (example: Featured night photography, Featured pictures from Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, Featured pictures of Paris); but not from categories about featured pictures on specific Wikipedia editions, like Category:Featured pictures on Wikipedia, English.
- Remove the "Commons quality assessment" claim (P6731) "Wikimedia Commons featured picture" (Q63348049) from the picture's Structured data.
- In the Assessments template on the image description page, change
- Add a delisting-comment to the original entry in the chronological archive of featured pictures in bold-face, e. g. delisted 2007-07-19 (1–6) with (1–6) meaning 1 keep and 6 delist votes (change as appropriate). The picture must not be removed from the chronological archives.
- If this is a Delist and Replace, the delisting and promotion must both be done manually. To do the promotion, follow the steps in the section above. Note that the assessment tag on the file page and the promotion tag on the nominator's talk page won't pick up the /replace subpage that these nominations use.
Archiving a withdrawn nomination
If a nomination has been withdrawn by the nominator by using Withdraw or is cancelled with FPX or FPD, wait 24 hours after the nomination was last edited. If there has been no objection to the cancellation within this time, the nomination can simply be archived. Just add candidate archive categories to the nomination itself, then move the transclusion of the nomination to the current log page; please see above for an explanation how to find the current log page and how to move the nomination to it.
