Reception

|---|---|
| Source | Rating |
| Paste | B[3] |
| Pitchfork | 8.1/10[2] |
| Still Listening | 85/100[5] |
Writing for Pitchfork, Sadie Sartini Garner called Bitknot "an album in which harsh, scraping sounds make sweet vocal melodies sound even sweeter" and "an empathetic, expertly arranged collection of songs".[2]
Grace Robins-Somerville for Paste said "[Lydia] Slocum's voice flits through a starry and wobbly guitar arrangement and chipmunk backup vox, all swirling together in a constellation of digital dreampop".[3]
Terrence O'Brien for The Verge said "Feeble Little Horse on Girl with Fish with [sic] a great band, but they felt like something of a throwback. On bitknot, they've become something more, something special."[6]
Tom Breihan for Stereogum said "[shoegaze] is part of what they do, but I also hear echoes of glitch, folk, hyperpop, and '90s alt-rock. The whole thing works as bleary, downbeat, internal pop music. It's inventive and reassuring at the same time."[4]
