Basavanagudi Assembly constituency is one of the 224 constituencies in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly of Karnataka, a southern state of India. Basavanagudi is also part of Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency.[2] It has also been considered as a stronghold of the BJP as it has won the constituency by a large margin multiple times.[3] Congress has only won the seat once in 2004 in the span of the past 45 years. The constituency is dominated by Brahmins and Vokkaligas. Middle and upper-middle-class people are in significant numbers and senior citizens make up almost a third of the electorate.[4]
