2026 English Channel incident

On 16 June 2026 the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich fired warning rifle shots ahead of a yacht in the English Channel between Normandy and the Isle of Wight.[1]

The incident occurred in foggy conditions 20 nautical miles (37 km) south of the Isle of Wight. Warning rifle shots were fired from 500 metres (550 yd) away to the yacht. No damage was reported to the yacht,[1] which was assisted by the patrol vessel HMS Tyne.[2] The Admiral Grigorovich was being shadowed by HMS Mersey.[1]
