Overview

edit

Lauren Shapiro is a Miami-based ceramics artist and educator.[1] Her sculptures engage architectural and organic forms, and are made through a combination of digital fabrication technologies, including photogrammetry, and traditional ceramic techniques.[2] An avid diver, Shapiro scans coral reefs, among other environments, to create artworks intended to raise awareness of climate change.[3]

Early Life

edit

A Broward County native, Shapiro grew up near Everglades National Park – a fact she credits to her longstanding interest in Florida's ecosystems.[4]

Notable Projects

edit

In 2025, Shapiro unveiled Collected Forms, a site-specific ceramic frieze at the MSC Cruise Terminal at PortMiami. The 194 hand-made, glazed ceramic sculptures explore the fragile equilibrium of underwater environments.[5]

To mark the 150th anniversary of Paul Chalfin, the first artistic director of Miami's Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Shapiro staged her solo exhibition Pastiche in 2025. The exhibition included ceramic, glass, and Plexiglas sculptures that blended human-made and organic forms, reflecting both the Museum's lush grounds and Chalfin's iconic design motifs.[6]
