Citadel Investment Services is a South African private wealth management and financial services firm, headquartered in Pretoria, Gauteng. Established in 1993 as JMM Investment Services and rebranded in 1996, Citadel offers investment management, fiduciary services, and financial planning to high-net-worth and institutional clients.[1] The firm is a subsidiary of Peregrine Holdings and has grown through multiple acquisitions, including Precept Wealth Solutions and Consolidated Financial Planning.[2][3] By 2024, the firm managed over R100 billion in assets and maintained a client retention rate above 99%.[1]

Citadel Investment Services (Pty) Ltd is registered in South Africa under company number M1996006847 and was incorporated on 31 May 1996.[4] Its registered address is in Lynnwood Manor, Pretoria, Gauteng.[5]

History

Citadel opened offices in Cape Town in 1995 and Durban in 1996.[1] Its Johannesburg office launched in 1998, introducing discretionary investment mandates and internal research capabilities.[1]

In 2002, Citadel became a subsidiary of Peregrine Holdings.[6]

In March 2020, Peregrine issued a SENS announcement regarding a proposed acquisition and delisting transaction, which included a “New Citadel Incentive Structure” for senior employees of Citadel Holdings.[7]

Andrew Möller was appointed CEO in 2013, and the firm launched the Citadel Philanthropy Foundation, one of South Africa’s first donor-advised funds.[8]

Citadel expanded through several acquisitions, including The Wealth Corporation (2014), Purpose Wealth (2019), Precept Wealth Solutions (2021),[9] and Consolidated Financial Planning (2023).[10]

In 2016, Citadel unveiled its new head office, The Citadel, in Claremont, Cape Town.[11] The six-storey building, developed in partnership with Atterbury and Catalyst, received a four-star Green Star rating for sustainability.[12]

Citadel provides wealth management, asset and portfolio management, fiduciary and estate planning, retirement fund administration, and treasury services through Citadel Global. It also operates Peregrine Administration Services (PAS) and Citadel Online Securities.[13]
