Project 1141 Sokol, was a single unit class of hydrofoil patrol corvette built for the Soviet Navy. Designated with the NATO reporting name Babochka class.[1]

Design

edit

From a technical point of view, this was a hydrofoil anti-submarine warfare vessel.

Only a single unit was constructed; later in 1990 it was modified: torpedo tubes were removed, while two Medvedka anti-submarine missile complex launchers were installed (8 K77R anti-submarine guided missiles) in the rear section of the ship.

The ship type was deemed too expensive and complex for mass production[2], therefore only a single unit was constructed, with production moving towards the more economical successor, the Project 11451 Mukha-class, which took most of the appearance and technical features from the Project 1141 design.

Service history

edit

A single ship, later renamed Alexandr Kunakhovich, served in the Black Sea Fleet as a test ship, until it was decommissioned in 1994.[3]
