Background
editAli Pasha governed the Pashalik of Yanina with almost complete autonomy for many years. He became de facto ruler over large parts of Epirus, southern Albania, and western Greece. While he was officially the Ottoman governor of the region, he behaved as an autonomous monarch, maintaining his own military force and conducting his own foreign policy.
