Centered text issues

edit

Sorry for having posted a lot here—
Okay, so to understand, look at these two sample userboxes;

"Centered"

For some reason this text is centered but the text on the other one isn't

Both of these have info-a = center implying they should be centered, but only the one with the long text is. Why is it that shorter strings of text are never centered?

This looks centered to me. Could you provide an image for what your screen looks like, if possible? 🫀 Crash // Organhaver (talk to me, maybe?) 15:02, 4 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Are you on desktop? It may be because I'm a mobile user.

I replied originally on computer. Right now, I’m on mobile, and it still looks correct. 🫀 Crash // Organhaver (talk to me, maybe?) 19:04, 4 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
This is what it looks like to me:

A late reply, but I'm on my mobile device @Lucy LostWord and I'm seeing what you're seeing. In the top box, the word "Centered" is aligned to the left. In the bottom box, the text is centered. Does it do the same thing if you remove the quotation marks from "Centered"? BetsyRogers (talk) 03:51, 5 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
If I remove the quotation marks, it's still not centered.

Category:Userboxes with insufficient color contrast

edit

In the category Category:Userboxes with insufficient color contrast, at the top of the page it says "This category has a backlog that requires the attention of willing editors". Does this mean they're asking for volunteers to fix the problem with the userboxes? (i.e. to edit the template?). Userboxes are designed by other users -- is editing their template even appropriate? BetsyRogers (talk) 21:49, 4 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is. It's like any other template or article. Nobody really "owns" a page, anyways. 🫀 Crash // Organhaver (talk to me, maybe?) 00:30, 5 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks. For some reason it feels a bit rude changing someone's "artwork" (in a way) compared to just editing some text. But some of the poor-contrast color choices are pretty bad, and I assume the creator would want them to be seen by everyone, so I'll just go with that assumption. Using Userbox: (like Template:) to host Userboxes

edit

We should user Userbox: (or UB:) as a centralized area for people to host userboxes and so that commonly used ones (like babel) can just be used by doing Userbox:babel, it'd also look a lot nicer

Full idea + feedback at Talk:Userbox or User:Arotparaarms/Userbox:Hoster User:BronMeattalk 08:27, 11 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

See WP:UBXNS for three different options that already exist. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:40, 11 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but a proper Userbox: or UB: would be more organized and efficient, Userbox:[example] instead of User:[example]/[example]/userbox. In the end it's mostly for a more efficient database for userboxes User:BronMeattalk 07:06, 14 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Organizing Userbox Galleries

edit

Hello, are there any standards on organization of Userboxes in Userbox Galleries in the Wikipedia namespace? I want to add some userboxes to one of them myself and I'm a bit worried that I might do something wrong.

Edit: Never mind, I wrote that when I didn't know how I was supposed to do so. But I am still curious.

What the heck…

edit

This user is a fan of Microsoft.

You see, this used to be a normal userbox I made. It looked great, it had two squares on each side stacked on top of each other, then in the middle was the "this user likes Microsoft blah blah blah", but what happened??? It looks messed up and stretched, the same goes for the other Microsoft userboxes I made that incorporate the logo. I would love it if anyone can help me figure out what is going on.

Trilletrollet accidentally broke {{Userbox-m}}. I have reverted their changes. That template doesn't have documentation explaining what it is for, so I don't know if you are using it correctly in your userbox. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:32, 19 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! It's back to normal now.
