Proposal: Replace the UFO in the project template

edit

UFOs are kind of trite at this point, and while certainly paramount in the popular imagination when it comes to science fiction, do it a disservice, as they are probably the least science fiction-y element of the entire genre. I would like to suggest replacing it with a machine, such as a computer or a robot, which are far more true to the genre. Another idea that comes to mind is an image that plays on the element of the unknown and unrecognizable, such as a wormhole, black hole, or other idea rooted in science but ever so removed from our everyday experience. At this point, the image of a nuts and bolts UFO has more to do with religion than science. Viriditas (talk) 23:07, 29 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

James Blish: Two items without good cites, cited as "personal conversations with JB"

edit

In James Blish, section "After Such Knowledge", two items are not correctly cited, but are noted as "personal conversations with JB".

Obviously these should be correctly cited or removed, but I don't know where to find said cites or which specific bits ought to be removed here.

Accuracy review requested: articles by User:Bookisher

edit

I wanted to flag a batch of recently created articles for review by editors familiar with the works. The author qntm publicly identified significant inaccuracies in Ra (novel) today, including fabricated terminology, an incorrect account of the plot's core concept, and a false publication history. See Talk:Ra (novel)#qntm takes issue for details and the author's Bluesky post. The same editor created a number of other SF articles in a short time and may warrant a similar accuracy check. I don't know any of the other works well enough and the user appears to have only been active for about a month. ~~~~ GeographerJay (talk) 01:07, 9 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
