How to tag or rescue terrible citations like this?
editIn Zhongguo feng (music) there are nearly useless citations like this:
- Xin, Ying (2017). "Liu xing yin yue "zhongguo feng" jie xi Analysis of "Zhongguofeng" pop music". Luoyang Shi Fan Xue Yuan Xue Bao. 36 (7): 84–87.
- Li, Jia Hui; Wu, Qiong Yao (2015). "Tan xi wang luo shi yu xia zhong guo feng yin yue liu xing de yuan yin [Investigating the reasons for the popularity of "Zhongguo feng" popular music using a network perspective]". Xin Wen Shi Jie. 5: 169–171.
- Chen, He Wei. ""Zhongguo feng" yin yue yin fa de yan jiu yu she hui wen hua si kao [Research and sociocultural reflections triggered by "China Wind" music]". Dongnan Xueshu. 4: 169–171.
With no original script and no urls/DOIs, they don't google. Can anyone figure out what they should be, or tell me what copyediting template to slap? The original author who added them is long inactive Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 05:38, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
- Though not uncommon, this type of citation is annoying for the reasons you say. In this case the editor even added spaces between every syllable instead of splitting words correctly, making it even harder to reconstruct the original titles.
- Still, the translations help. A combination of educated guesses and online searches yields:
- 辛颖, 流行音乐“中国风”解析, 洛阳师范学院学报
- 李嘉蕙 and 吴琼瑶, 探析网络视域下中国风音乐流行的原因, 新闻世界
- 陈訸玮, “中国风”音乐引发的研究与社会文化思考, 东南学术

"Geng Chen"
editGeng Chen is the main article of Army General Chen Geng, but why "Geng Chen"? Most sources go by Chen Geng, old CIA documents called him "Ch'en Keng", and even the Vietnamese called him "Trần Canh". What's the purpose of putting the surname behind the given name? It's not like he was living in the US or the UK either. Absolutely baffling choice. Bloody-pin (talk) 08:53, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with you. It seems the article was moved to this title without discussion about two months ago; I'll request a technical move to restore the old title Chen Geng. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 15:06, 10 May 2026 (UTC)

Minor wording issues at "He Long"?
editWithin the section "In the People's Republic" of the He Long article, there's this sentence: "The Cultural Revolution followed soon after with the goal of purging communist and rightist leanings in China." which is without any source. The wording seems a bit off (possibly added by the original creator of the page?) so I decide to consult WP China again, as this is rated as a level-5 vital article and assessed to be of mid-importance on the project's importance scale. Bloody-pin (talk) 13:13, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Bloody-pin Thanks for raising this here. The Who Wrote That? tool shows that this sentence was added without a source, an explanation, or proper grammar by an IP editor two years ago: . I think it's safe to ignore and remove the obviously erroneous "purging communist" bit. Toadspike [Talk] 13:23, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- I've now removed that sentence. Toadspike [Talk] 13:28, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you. I now think that the sentence "He was accused of a mutiny in February 1964, after a Soviet Union trip with Zhou Enlai." is possibly bogus as well, as I've (easily) found a CIA document showing He Long being accused of the "February Mutiny" but in 1966 and not 1964, when he made the trip. Nothing much seem to have happened to He Long during those two years. Bloody-pin (talk) 14:38, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
- Yep, that originated in a similar unsourced and unexplained IP edit . I'll go ahead and remove it. Toadspike [Talk] 13:52, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Appropriate length for individual articles about the 10 PRC Marshals
editFrom my experience adding information and sources to the He Long article, each of their individual articles should have around 3,000 - 4,000 words at least for it to be considered comprehensive. I guess this is (somehow) a rather niche topic, since even the article about Marshal Chen Yi feels quite barren, despite him being a Vice Premier, long-time Foreign Minister (which should make him one of the most visible Chinese figures of that era) and "Shanghai czar" (also quite the notable posting). Bloody-pin (talk) 11:58, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, a lot of our coverage of Chinese politics, and Chinese topics more broadly, is very sparse. Anything you can do to improve that is appreciated! Toadspike [Talk] 14:56, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
COI edit request: Help updating History section of Chagee page
editHello members of Wikiproject China! I'm an employee at Chagee, a global milk tea brand founded in Yunnan. I have suggested some improvements and additions to the History section of the page, but won't make the edits directly since I have a conflict of interest.
I'm reaching out here to see if any editors would be willing to take a look at my request on the Talk page, which improves sourcing for the section and adds some new information about Chagee's international expansion. My request includes a draft as well as a diff view of my proposed changes. Many thanks for your help! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 16:56, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
Please add additional sources, and then you may remove the tags. Thanks in advance. Bearian (talk) 02:31, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

editHello WikiProject China editors,
I have declared a conflict of interest and submitted a COI edit request at Talk:Huagong Tech seeking factual corrections to the infobox.
The specific issues: 1. The "Owner" field still lists SASAC, which has been factually incorrect since March 2021 following a corporate restructuring 2. "State-owned enterprise" classification is outdated — the company is now a mixed-ownership enterprise
Both changes are supported by:
- The company's 2025 Annual Report filed with SZSE
(Filing No. 2026-09)
- The 2025 Q3 Report on cninfo.com.cn
A third opinion was previously sought and two concerns were raised; I responded with additional sources on 20 May 2026. The request has had no reviewer response since December 2025.
Any review would be greatly appreciated. Happy to answer questions. Tuotutiaoyue (talk) 02:08, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
- Bumping this request — still awaiting a reviewer.
- Any attention would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tuotutiaoyue (talk) 12:24, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

The article Bian Jinyang has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Tagged for notability concerns and minimal sources for 10 years. No other language has a reliably sourced article from which to translate. Poorly sourced BLP.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.
If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Bearian (talk) 05:10, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
Draft review of Foreign imperialism in China
editYou can see the draft at Draft:Foreign imperialism in China.
Fellow editors! Today I present my effort to consolidate and organize the entire history of foreign imperialism in China starting in the 1840s into one article. This was motivated by my own frustrations when trying to educate myself on the topic via Wikipedia and realizing that everything seemed scattered across many different pages.
I tried my best to write following the best conventions, and each section should be readable in grammar and prose. I also suggest the following actions per WP:MERGECON, which states that:
Some topics that are independently notable are best covered in the same article in order to better serve reader understanding. For example, if a short article requires the background material or context from a broader article in order for readers to understand it.
- Merge Scramble for China into this article. This period is best understood in the broader context of what happened before and what happened after. I have already bolded the text "Scramble for China" in this article in anticipation.
- Convert Foreign concessions in China into a list article.
- Convert Treaty ports into a list article. I have absorbed all of the details that describe and discuss the Chinese treaty ports. The Korean and Japanese sections can be coverted to tables.
- Merge List of Chinese treaty ports into Treaty ports.
- Shorten Unequal treaties#China.
- Shorten Century of humiliation. However, this is still distinct from foreign imperialism and not equivalent.
- Shorten New Imperialism#China. As of writing, this section's prose is 1,486, which is very long for a single section.
- Shorten Western imperialism in Asia#Western European and Russian intrusions into China.
Of course, I will be happy to perform all of these changes myself if given consensus. Wasting time is still my passion (talk) 21:11, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

Name of Yuhuan Guci
editThis is a Good Article from zh wiki, recently translated by my student. I am concerned about the name - neither Yuhuan Guci nor the other alt name in the lead, changci , trigger any hits in Google Scholar. Could someone take a look? Machine translation from zh just gives me more Englishy names such as "Yuhuan Drum Lyrics, also known as "Singing Lyrics,"". which do no better in GS... Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:49, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- I think it's obscure enough that there's not much English-language coverage. A search for "Wenzhou guci" finds some hits on Google Scholar, but I can't find any reliable English-language coverage of Yuhuan guci under that translation or any other.
- I would suggest moving the article to Yuhuan guci. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 04:15, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Mx. Granger Thanks, I moved it to lower cap since that's the best (and good) suggestion so far. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 04:47, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
Please address the multiple issues tagged, in particular by adding reliable sources. Thank you for your help. Bearian (talk) 02:39, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
