Wikipedia:Not all Vocaloid songs deserve their own article
This is an essay on notability. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article or a Wikipedia policy, as it has not been reviewed by the community. |
| This page in a nutshell: Just because a Vocaloid song exists, that doesn't guarantee that there will be a Wikipedia article for it. |
Vocaloid is a singing voice synthesizer software product that was created over 2 decades ago. Just because some Vocaloid songs[a] like Mesmerizer, Rabbit Hole, and Dune,[b] have Wikipedia articles, that doesn't mean that there can be articles created for other popular Vocaloid songs such as Static [no, I don't think this one has an article on any language version], Monitoring, and Tetoris.[c] These types of content count as fancruft.
But why?
editAny information that is related to Vocaloid and other singing synthesizer softwares are required to be accompanied by a reliable source. Also, for that matter, any pages that are related to Vocaloid and/or other singing synthesizer softwares are required to meet the general notability guideline. Although many Vocaloid synthesizer software applications and some Vocaloid songs have their own articles because they meet these guidelines, many of these specific songs do not. Some people believe that just because some Vocaloid songs have their own articles, they can write whatever they want like it's Fandom, but there are policies and rules that decide what should and should not be on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, these rules state that (as of late December 2025) many Vocaloid songs don't need any more articles. However, articles on Vocaloid songs tend to get more coverage on the Japanese and Chinese Wikipedias, but they have their own notability guidelines.
When to create new article
editYou should search if it pass WP:NSONG before creating new article. Generally songs might be notable if:
- receive significant coverage. Not just in Japanese but also in English.
- it's ranked in top chart. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Record charts/Sourcing guide/Japan
- has won award(s)
And after you absolutely sure it it is notable, follow MOS:JAMEDIA on how to name the article titles.

Notes
edit- ↑ This also applies to songs sung by other singing synthesizers such as UTAU, Synthesizer V, CeVIO, and the like.
- ↑ To be fair, the creator of the last song sang parts of it himself. It was written for Hatsune Miku's 10th birthday.
- ↑ Ok, the last one is a redirect to the notable Hiiragi Magnetite, but anyways...
