Project members are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to $2680 in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:18, 14 April 2026 (UTC)

This is a stub about a Mexican poet that has been unsourced for decades. There's no Spanish language article. It's difficult to find sources because there appears to be a similarly-named actor. Please add reliable sources, or barring that, send to AfD. Bearian (talk) 16:01, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

Request for review: Draft:Naief Yehya (Mexican author & cultural critic)
editHello, I have recently submitted a draft for the Mexican journalist, author, and cultural critic Draft:Naief Yehya via the Articles for Creation process. Because I have a disclosed conflict of interest (COI) with the subject, I am strictly relying on independent editors to review and move the draft to the main space. The draft is heavily sourced with high-quality, reliable secondary coverage from major Hispanophone and international outlets like El País, El Tiempo, El Sol de México, and Gatopardo. I would be very grateful if a bilingual editor from WikiProject Mexico could take a look at the draft to ensure the translation of concepts and facts match English encyclopedic standards and help facilitate its review. Thank you so much for your time!

- @NicoYehya: I'll take a look, just give me several days. I already went through the first source and none of the info cited backed up what you wrote so please ensure that the information you add in the draft is backed up by reliable sources. See you there. Morogris (✉ • ✎) 21:32, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Morogris,
- Hmm ok, I can take a look and make sure I did the citing correctly then. I can take it down until I have double checked it all and reply here when I have gone through it again if that is better.
- Best,
- Nico

- I've moved our discussion to Draft talk:Naief Yehya instead. Cheers, Morogris (✉ • ✎) 21:57, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
Unwarranted inheritance between Category:Spanish-language television shows and Category:Mexican television shows
editRight now, Category:Mexican television shows belongs to Category:Spanish-language television shows. That does not seem appropriate to me, because there exist Mexican shows (such as Baktun (TV series), five layers beneath Category:Mexican television shows) which are not in Spanish. Would the following be a suitable remedy?
- Create a separate intersection, something like Category:Spanish-language Mexican television shows, as a subcategory of Category:Spanish-language television shows and Category:Mexican television shows
- Category:Mexican television shows should remain a subcategory of Category:Television shows by country and Category:Television in Mexico, but be removed from Category:Spanish-language television shows
This would allow shows like Baktun to be severed from the Spanish-language category tree. I don't want to over-complicate; perhaps there is a simpler solution? What do others think? Regards, Btyner (talk) 14:16, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- Looking at Category:English-language American television shows for example, it does not have any sub-categories other than categories for a specific show. So probably (for now) the easiest-safest approach would be to follow this. Gonnym (talk) 15:07, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
- Is it best to go through Categories for Discussion (CfD)? If approved there, I heard it can be used to enlist bots which can automatically move pages into the new category? Btyner (talk) 00:28, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don't think a bot can do this as it requires checking each page to see what language it is and probably not all are set correctly as evidence by your original post. Gonnym (talk) 13:42, 22 June 2026 (UTC)

The DCWC is back!
edit
Hey WikiProject Mexico, the Developing Countries WikiContest is back for a third year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.
Thanks to everyone who answered the call for coordinators, and please welcome the new faces on the coordinator team: the 2024 Gold Belt Buckle winner Generalissima (talk · contribs); and the record-holder for most India-related submissions in 2024, Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs)! Following feedback from last year, adjustments have been made to the scoring rules; discussion can be found on the contest talk page.
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), Generalissima (talk · contribs), Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs).
