Adding Tamazight names of cities in Algeria.
editI was told I should go to this wiki page for this.
Can I add the Tamazight names of cities in Algeria? Anyone against this? MedAdventurer (talk) 14:59, 19 April 2026 (UTC)
- @MedAdventurer If you are planning on doing this seriously, you should source every name you add and include the different scripts used. You can use the Algeria article as an example. lankdadank (chat) 15:18, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- Would there really need to be a source put in for every single of them? The Algeria or other places such as Adrar articles don't have a sources for the Arabic. I have sources but but I think it would be fine if I didn't put them for each and every one of them. I can put the sources in List of cities in Algeria which would be valid for all of those cities.
- I would also be using just general Tamazight but for specific dialect names for the locations I would specify them too.
- For example: Tamanrasset it would be "Tamazight: ⵜⴰⵎⴻⵏⵖⴻⵙⵜ romanized: Tamenghest" and "Tamasheq: ⵜⵎⵏⵗⵙⵜ romanized: Tmnghst"
- Would this be fine? MedAdventurer (talk) 18:27, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, it is important, because this will deter attempts to remove the name. The Arabic names are easily verifiable, but the Tamazight names are not. I have also seen people (with good intentions) use different names for the same city, which weakens the legitimacy of the addition.
- As for using different Berber varieties, I would stick with featuring Standard Algerian Berber, for now. Make sure you link to the article for it too, like in the article for Algeria. lankdadank (chat) 18:43, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- I'd suggest changing one specific city and indicating here that you made the change and getting a consensus. If a concensus is reached here, then making the change would be viewed as what *should* be done.Naraht (talk) 00:37, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

The DCWC is back!
edit
Hey WikiProject Algeria, the Developing Countries WikiContest is back for a third year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.
Thanks to everyone who answered the call for coordinators, and please welcome the new faces on the coordinator team: the 2024 Gold Belt Buckle winner Generalissima (talk · contribs); and the record-holder for most India-related submissions in 2024, Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs)! Following feedback from last year, adjustments have been made to the scoring rules; discussion can be found on the contest talk page.
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), Generalissima (talk · contribs), Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs).
