Speedy deletion declined: Nature's Educators
editHello Funnyfarmofdoom - I would like to contest the speedy deletion put on the article for Nature's Educators. I have created this page to provide factual information about the non-profit wildlife education facility "Nature's Educators". You will find that this is a credible non-rofit organization by visiting the website http://www.natureseducators.com. Can you please provide assistance with what I can do to reverse the speedy deletion? Thanks so much for your help! - My userpage is the WRONG place to contest a deletion. In fact, there's a huge button on the page that says "Contest deletion". As of writing, the page still has not been deleted, so you can go and do it. However, from the way the article was written, I stand by my reasoning that the article was a non-notable organization. Does the group meet the requirements in WP:GNG? Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 05:35, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
I believe Nature's Educators is a notable organization, to name a few references:
- Mentioned in the Denver Post Online - http://yourhub.denverpost.com/denver/natures-educators-raptor-programs-ready-go/GivNwVyprnzoTEsuHzYMzO-ugc.
- A notable attraction at the Denver County Fair - http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=14186541#.Tv1OvSNWpbw.
- A notable attraction at the Denver Pet Expo - http://www.denverpetexpo.com/component/mtree/2012-Exhibitors/Nature's-Educators/details.html
Finally I apologize for how I am addressing this appeal, as I am a new user to Wikipedia and trying to make sure I do everything right. Thanks for your help Nature's Educators (talk)Griffin87 —Preceding undated comment added 05:45, 30 December 2011 (UTC).
- (edit conflict)(talk page stalker)Whether it was non-profit or not does not matter. I see that the website is copyrighted for 2011; perhaps later it will gain enough coverage to establish notability, a requirement for an article on Wikipedia. But with that being a rather local organization, that doesn't seem likely in the near future.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:36, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
The organization was started in 2008, but the copyright says 2011 in order to reflect the current status. I understand your position and appreciate your time helping me with this. Maybe I will try again when our name has a larger impact on a greater number of people. Do you have any last recommendations on HOW to judge notability beyond the relatively vague criteria in your WP:GNG? Thanks Again Nature's Educators (talk)Griffin87
- It's the most difficult thing on Wikipedia when making a new article. I think your decision to try again when there's more coverage is the right one, but don't give up. By the way, are you in any way related to Nature's Educators?Jasper Deng (talk) 05:55, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Although GNG is the all-around guideline, we also have specific guidelines on organizations. WP:ORG and WP:BFAQ are good places to start. And thanks for actually bothering to learn about our guidelines, most people just try to blank my userpage :) Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 05:56, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
One of my friends is the Director of the organization - I thought creating an article for her would help establish credibility for her organization and provide another source where people can come to learn about Nature's Educators and about the wildlife they promote. I just hope I haven't ruined future article creation for her with all this. And I will check out WP:ORG and WP:BFAQ to see what I can learn. Thank you for those links! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Griffin87 (talk • contribs) 06:01, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- You may continue working in this area as long as you exercise enough caution to comply with Wikipedia's content policies. It can be tough, and is best taken in small bites (learning each policy one-by-one).Jasper Deng (talk) 06:05, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for that direction, and thank you for letting me continue working in that area. With the links provided, I will do my best to make sure all content complies with Wikipedia's policies. As a new user, there is a lot to take in so I appreciate your leniency and direction. Nature's Educators (talk)Griffin87 —Preceding undated comment added 06:10, 30 December 2011 (UTC).
- You're welcome. I have condensed much of Wikipedia's guidelines into my guide for new users, which you might find helpful.Jasper Deng (talk) 06:11, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
That is a great resource, thank you. Does that mean the speedy deletion of the Nature's Educators page has been lifted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Griffin87 (talk • contribs) 06:16, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately not, but I can userfy it for you if you'd like (but you must tell me quickly).Jasper Deng (talk) 06:17, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)A speedy deletion just means that the article at the time was deleted. You are still free to create the page anytime you want. WP:SALT is only used in rare cases. Funnyfarmofdoom (talk to me) 06:19, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Umm, sure, but I don't know how much good that will do, as there isn't much content to save.
- Every article starts small. If I userfy it you can work on it more, but as it is it won't survive in the article space.Jasper Deng (talk) 06:21, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Ok, then yeah, please userfy it. When the time comes, how would I get my userfied content re-published as an actual article? DO you have a resource to direct me to that describes that process?
- I'm going to move the article in the process of userfying it. All you would then have to do is move it back.Jasper Deng (talk) 06:23, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
