AnomieBOT
| Anomie is still around, mostly to maintain AnomieBOT. But after the WMF proved that office politics are more important to them than seemingly anything else, and otherwise generally seem more concerned with their own image than substance, Anomie is not engaging in technical work on MediaWiki. |

TFD unclosed despite deleted template
editTFDClerk usually closes TFDs listing a template deleted for other reasons, but WP:Templates for discussion/Log/2026 March 7#Template:Minimum wage row hasn't been closed. Izno (talk) 19:40, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
- Looks like the bot was getting confused by the move-with-redirect followed by deletion of the redirect. Probably it should ignore the move if an actual deletion happened. Anomie⚔ 01:28, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

FFD not closed
editWhy hasn't AnomieBOT closed Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2026 March 4#3D remixes covers? * Pppery * it has begun... 17:06, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
- The FFD closer task currently only handles single-file discussions, where the file is linked in the section title. Possibly one of these days I should update it. Anomie⚔ 18:59, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
Make cite IUCN
editIn , it should have stripped the dot from the author (Birdlife International.).

translating foreign language template
editBot is working to replace other language wiki citation templates to enwiki alternative templates. In this edit, bot did that task, but unfortunately it was unable to solve date format problem.––KEmel49(📝,📋) 09:58, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- All AnomieBOT does for those templates is the equivalent of subst:. It's up to the tempalte/module what exactly it substs to. In this case, you seem to have used an unsupported numeric format rather than ISO 8601. Anomie⚔ 14:34, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
Creating new template for automated removal
editHi, I’m just curious - how tricky would it be to implement a template which automatically gets removed when a certain date is reached?
The use-case is for airport destination lists - one of the biggest sources of churn is the removal of start dates for routes (for example Foo Airport (starts 1 April 2026) where the starts 1 April 2026 text is removed)… if this was turned into a template, would AnomieBOT be able to automatically remove the template when the date is reached? Would reduce maintenance load and churn… Danners430 tweaks made 11:32, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- Are you looking for Template:Show by date? Anomie⚔ 14:35, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- Aha! I hadn’t spotted that before, and would be perfect - I assume we can just leave the after text blank and it would be substituted to nothing after the date specified? Danners430 tweaks made 14:40, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, that's what should happen. Anomie⚔ 17:22, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
- Excellent, thank you! I'll suggest to the WikiProject that we start using those templates for start dates etc. Danners430 tweaks made 18:03, 28 March 2026 (UTC)

Archive Today
editThe bot keeps adding back Archive Today links to pages even though WP:ATODAY in place. Could it be tweaked to not recover those links, or perhaps replace them with IA links or is that a bit too complicated? Doc Strange (talk) 18:20, 31 March 2026 (UTC)

Version Control System
editHi, I was wondering if you had a copy of AnomieBOT's code available in some kind of proper version control system like Git or if not, how would the best and easiest way to reconstruct the source locally with history in a more or less clean way. -- NotKlea (talk) 23:03, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- See User:AnomieBOT/source.––KEmel49(📝,📋) 18:17, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, I am aware that User:AnomieBOT/source exists, although I was wondering if it was in a proper VCS, like Git, or Subversion, since extracting the full change history seems hard to do from MediaWiki, and it doesn't allow you to modify more than one page at once, so I have to assume that every-time the files changed they changed along with the ChangeLog and the files weren't modified more times than the ChangeLog to get the full change list. --NotKlea (talk) 19:37, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Bot Glitch Report
editThis bot send me a heads-up alert to my talk page, even if someone else had already done so beforehand
Also, since me and that editor already had seemly had some talk with a conclusion, i see no need of why the bot sent the same alert twice after everything happened, can you fix it so doesnt happen again with someone else? it messes with the talk page and if get a necessary reply from a editor it gets messy to read Meganinja202 (talk) 07:13, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Mass tagging for speedy deletion by AnomieBOT?
editI'm confused by this situation at CT:CSD. I'm not certain how to proceed. BusterD (talk) 10:45, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- Seems someone else already did the deletions; I'm guessing it was these. What happened there is that a ban-evading user created a ton of redirects like Iceland–Kenya relations. AnomieBOT, seeing these en-dash-containing titles, created corresponding redirects like Iceland-Kenya relations using ASCII
-in place of the–. These bot creations include a transclusion of {{User:AnomieBOT/Auto-G8}}, which serves a few purposes, one of which is to automatically nominate the ascii-dash redirect for G8 (and secondarily G7 and G6) if the en-dash title it depends on is deleted. So when someone noticed the ban evasion and mass-deleted those creations, that triggered {{User:AnomieBOT/Auto-G8}}'s auto-G8 logic. Anomie⚔ 12:53, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
TemplateSubster: Template:DYK? has too many transclusions
edit
Note that TFD substitutions should now be done via User:AnomieBOT/TFDTemplateSubster rather than by (ab)using TemplateSubster!
In an effort to prevent disruption, I refuse to subst templates that have over 100 transclusions unless they are listed at User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force. Please either edit the template to remove it from Category:Wikipedia templates to be automatically substituted, manually subst the existing transclusions, or add it to User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force to let me know it is OK to subst them. When you have fixed this issue, please change the section title (e.g. append " - Fixed") or remove this section completely. I will repost the notice if the page is still broken or is re-broken. Thanks! AnomieBOT⚡ 00:48, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
- Much the same as last time, it's due to use of {{hook under discussion}} on Template:Did you know/Queue/1, added by User:AirshipJungleman29 in Special:Diff/1351383878. Also cc theleekycauldron re previous discussion. Anomie⚔ 01:41, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
- huh. i thought i'd fixed it by having it subst right away; does that not work? theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 01:58, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Anomiebot was there to clean up after this edit, but it hasn't replaced the web citation template to Cite web. even if it dictates Cite web as a redirect but bot could have replaced template because most users are compatible with Cite web. Also it could have replaced {{Note from the newspaper}} to Cite news.––KEmel49(📝,📋) 18:14, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- Template:Chú thích web is in Category:Wikipedia templates to be automatically substituted, which is what that bot task handles. Those other templates are not. Anomie⚔ 23:32, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
Disabling TagDater for a specific case
editI forget which bot has a hidden comment syntax where you can disable the bot just for the line in which the comment appears, but it is a really handy feature. I was wondering if the TagDater has that ability? I would like to disable it for just one case. Mathglot (talk) 02:48, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
- The TagDater task only applies to pages in mainspace and pages transcluded into pages in mainspace. What exactly is the case where you think a template shouldn't have a proper date added? Anomie⚔ 11:21, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
Wrong license on Commons transfer
editThe file Unity (Credit Union) logo.jpg was automatically moved to Commons after a template suggesting it was placed on it. However, it was given a CC-BY-SA 4.0 license tag without explanation. The Wikipedia version of the image was initially considered a non-free logo, but I placed a PD-simple on it. I'm not sure where this CC license came from. --Gert7 (talk · contribs) 10:01, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- It appears that you're referring to this edit of yours to File:Unity Credit Union (NZ) logo.jpg, followed by this bot edit? It looks like User:Classictypewriter uploaded the Commons version first (2026-05-20T01:07:05Z) with the CC license, then re-uploaded it here under the different name a few minutes later (2026-05-20T01:33:23Z). There does not appear to have been any automatic transfer; AnomieBOT only noted the duplicate that already existed under a different name. You'd have to ask that editor where the CC license came from Anomie⚔ 11:02, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
Stop vandalizing my edit
editYo can you please stop making my article bad, like that article that you are messing up is 2xrakai, and like stop doing that. I’m trying to make my article look good, but nooo, I have someone who is messing it up. Please stop doing this Constrayevan (talk) 14:57, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
- You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation. I suspect you actually meant to complain at the person who cleaned up some of your WP:PUFFERY and WP:DUE issues, rather than the bot that added a date to a citation needed tag. Anomie⚔ 16:54, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
Change of protection level
editI lowered the protection of Template:Hamas to extended-confirmed. The request on Template talk:Hamas has the correct category Category:Wikipedia extended-confirmed-protected edit requests but it is still listed on User:AnomieBOT/TPERTable and is not listed on User:AnomieBOT/EPERTable. The link from the TPERTable does not work because it has anchor #edittemplateprotected instead of #editextendedprotected. Did I do something wrong? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:53, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- I think the problem is that the categorization hasn't gotten updated yet: the talk page is still present in Category:Wikipedia template-protected edit requests and not in Category:Wikipedia extended-confirmed-protected edit requests (note that's going by the category listing pages, not the boxes at the bottom of Template talk:Hamas itself; more specifically, it's what's in the database
categorylinkstable). Once MediaWiki gets around to updating that, the bot should move it over. A (null) edit to the talk page might help that happen. Anomie⚔ 11:28, 4 June 2026 (UTC)- That makes sense. I've performed a null edit and it is in the right category now. I wonder why that didn't happen as soon as I saved the new template (which was after the protection level changed)? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:32, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
- That I have no idea. Maybe there's a cache or a similar asynchronous update somewhere in MediaWiki's protection level lookup via wikitext/Scribunto, so the parse after that edit didn't see the protection level change yet. Or maybe the job queue just lost the update somehow. Anomie⚔ 11:36, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
