Martin Case (born October 18, 1971) is an American-Australian composer, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and educator based in Melbourne, Australia. His work involves composing for dance, film, and ensemble works in the United States and Australia. He is the founder of the percussion ensemble Visionary in Boston and the group Visionary-Steel in Melbourne.[1][2]
Biography
editCase graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1994 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Professional Music.[3]
Case has collaborated on music and educational projects associated with institutions including Harvard University, MIT, Boston Ballet, and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee.[4] During this period, he contributed to programs for dance organizations including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and Mark Morris Dance Group.[4] He also served as an international consultant for McGraw-Hill in the Ivory Coast.[2]
After relocating to Australia in 2017, he served as a lecturer and curriculum writer for JMC Academy in Melbourne until 2019. Since 2018, he has held the position of Director of Curriculum at the Universal School of Music and serves as a music director at Music Valley.[2]
In collaboration with saxophonist Joe Brogan, Case released the albums Awakening (2013) and 4 Directions (2015).[5][6]
Community involvement
editIn 2021, Case established the Newport Drummers in Melbourne, an ensemble focusing on the application of percussion in community health, specifically for individuals affected by dementia and Parkinson's disease.[1][7][8] He also founded the Cherry Lake Cultural Series to promote local multicultural music.[1]
Case served as the President of the Lions Club of Altona for the 2023–2024 term. In this role, he was a lead organizer for the concert at the Lions International (LCI) Convention held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in 2024.[1][9][8]
Recognition
edit- Recipient of the **Melvin Jones Fellowship**, awarded by Lions Clubs International Foundation for community and humanitarian service.[8][9]

Martin Case (born October 18, 1971) is an American Australian composer, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and educator. He is known for integrating world music traditions with contemporary electronic and acoustic production. Case has composed for dance, film, and ensemble works across the U.S., Australia, and internationally, and is the founder of the multicultural percussion ensemble Visionary and its Australian counterpart Visionary-Steel.[citation needed]
Biography
editHe earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, specializing in composition, production, and performance.[1][2]
After graduating, he worked as an educator, composer, and performer for institutions such as Harvard University, MIT, and Boston Ballet, where he served as an accompanist and collaborator on various projects. He held a programmatic position with arts organizations such as the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.[3]
Between 1996 and 2013, he released several albums combining traditional rhythms with modern production. In collaboration with saxophonist Joe Brogan, he released:

In mid-2017, he moved to Melbourne, Australia. His first commission in Australia was as professor and curriculum writer for JMC Academy from 2017 to 2019. He operates Martin Case Media Productions, is Band Director at Music Valley, Artistic Director of Visionary-Steel, and is founder of the Cherry Lake Cultural Series.[2]
He was included in Marquis Who's Who (a prestigious biographical publication) in recognition of his contributions to music production, education, and composition.[2]
