- There is no H308. You probably want P308+P313, which has already been added. – Scyrme (talk) 18:50, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
Annotate obsolete phrases in tooltips?
editA number of phrases have been made obsolete in subsequent revisions of the GHS[1] such as P310, though they're still widely cited across Wikipedia and at sites such as Sigma-Aldrich, which is often referenced for H-phrases and P-phrases. An anonymous IP editor also noted this back in 2023 (above). Perhaps the tooltips should be amended to simply include "(obsolete)" when they're invoked, without marking them as erroneous since they're still widely used? This would follow the example of PubChem, which prefaces its GHS summary with "obsolete H-codes and P-codes are also provided, as they are still in use but annotated as obsolete
". I think implementing this would only require updating the data modules used by the template to provide the tooltips, but I think I'd be able to do that (I've edited the relevant module before). The data module needs updating anyway, since it's based on the 9th rev., 2021, not the 11th rev., 2025.
Updating the tooltips would be a lot simpler and create less of a mess than trying to create new omission rules to automatically hide obsolete codes or deleting the obsolete codes from the data module so that they're flagged as errors. Even if we cleaned up the resulting backlog of all the obsolete codes on Wikipedia using a bot or something, editors would likely add them back into articles because trusted sources like Sigma-Aldrich often still have obsolete phrases listed.
Would anyone object to annotating the obsolete phrases via tooltips? – Scyrme (talk) 09:35, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and done this while I updated the data module to the 11th edition (2025). The template documentation still references the old edition because it's based on a template that doesn't pull the reference from the data module, but instead pulls it from {{GHS2021}}. That template will need to be updated/replaced at some point too. – Scyrme (talk) 18:03, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Went ahead and updated the reference that template cites, though it's still stuck as the "2021" name. – Scyrme (talk) 18:24, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Update: I've moved the template to a title that won't become outdated with future updates. – Scyrme (talk) 19:55, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- GHS hazard statements and GHS precautionary statements are still outdated, but I think it might be possible to automatically update the lists from the module used by this template and its subpages. The easiest way would be to simply list them all in one big table, since there's already a template for that, but I'd like to try to think of a way to retain the structured lists used in the articles. – Scyrme (talk) 21:31, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Just noticed that for some reason the "list all" template starts the list of P-phrases at P103 not P101. I'm unsure why. – Scyrme (talk) 21:41, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Update: This issue has now been fixed. – Scyrme (talk) 18:45, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

H441
editWhile I was updating Module:GHS phrases/data I noticed that I was unable to find H441 ("Very toxic to terrestrial invertebrates.
") even in the older editions I looked at. I'm unsure if this is because it's from a very old edition or because it's only described in an appendix or something. When I searched on Google I was able to find some sites that mention it, so I annotated it as "(Obsolete)" on the assumption that it once was a valid phrase from an old edition. If anyone knows differently, please let me know so I can correct the data module. – Scyrme (talk) 01:06, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
