Non-XC template showing for XC editors?

edit

At Talk:2026 Iran war, I'm seeing a big red notice that says that I can only submit edit requests as I'm "not an extended confirmed user", and that pages related to the Arab-Israeli conflict are subject to ECR etc.
Is there a bug with the {{Contentious topics/talk notice|a-i}} template causing this warning to incorrectly show to XC users? nil nz 07:06, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Nil NZ: I'm not able to reproduce this issue from an extended-confirmed account. Can you upload a WP:WPSHOT of what you are seeing? Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 14:53, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Curious, I have had this same issue before and I recall it was fixed, but unfortunately I do not recall how. Slomo666 (talk) 20:25, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@HouseBlaster Sure thing! Looks like it's not just a-i – here's the same notice, but at Talk:Zak Smith (with zs as the parameter):
It's also visible at Talk:2025 India–Pakistan crisis, which uses ipa. nil nz 22:06, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I'm looking into this :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:29, 6 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Nil NZ: I've been banging my head against the wall for a while. Can you try uninstalling all of your scripts and CSS, bypassing your cache, and viewing it? Thanks, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:23, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@HouseBlaster Ahhh, found the problem! It was this line in my CSS that was triggering it – Special:Diff/1348755217. I've disabled it and reactivated everything else, and the template is no longer showing for me. nil nz 03:51, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ahh-haaaa! Glad we sorted this out :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 04:04, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

"false positives report"

edit

I was told to make a "false positives report" and the link I clicked lead here. So hereby: The warning came up when i made the following contribution: User talk:Danlaycock#c-Slomo666-20260414192700-Introduction to contentious topics. I checked all the logs it mentioned, and concluded there must have been a false positive.

Thank you and happy editing,

Slomo666 (talk) 19:29, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

The warning shows up when you attempt to alert an editor to a contentious topic, under all circumstances. This was not a false positive because you did issue an alert. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 19:37, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Protected edit request on 1 June 2026

edit

Add support for the redirect= editnotice parameter for Template:Contentious topics/editnotice, Template:COVID-19 AE/Edit notice, Template:Gs/editnotice, Template:Editnotice 0RR, and Template:Contentious topics/gmo editnotice. Template:Contentious topics/page restriction editnotice and Template:Contentious topics/Arab-Israeli editnotice already have one. Actually, the code should be reformatted so that all the unset parameters accepted by {{editnotice}} can be passed to CT and GS editnotices, just like the latter two editnotices. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 09:11, 1 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Information Note: I've marked this as a template-protected edit request. Implementation requires an admin or template editor. Kodning 🌸 (talk) 03:09, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have removed Template:COVID-19 AE/Edit notice, Template:Contentious topics/gmo editnotice and Template:Editnotice 0RR because they don't appear to be protected. Would you like to edit those ones yourself?  Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:06, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done. I figured a template editor could get them all in one go. Hopefully I didn't screw something up Kodning 🌸 (talk) 20:45, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Partly done: Template:COVID-19 AE/Edit notice, Template:Contentious topics/gmo editnotice, Template:Editnotice 0RR. Kodning 🌸 (talk) 20:44, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done for Template:Contentious topics/editnotice. To fix TM:Gs/editnotice, you need to update Module:Sanctions. Please sandbox the change at Module:Sanctions/sandbox and make an edit request at Template talk:Gs. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:42, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request for grammar

edit

Most of the values do not end with full stops within the quotes. Only the 1,000 words and RSCR keys have values that end with full stops. The values are complete sentences. In a template, it can be considered poor grammar. I request that full stops be added to the rest of the values in the JSON object so the contentious topics templates have correct grammar when multiple items are selected. Z.
